New Opera...for the better or worse??

I have one big question, and please forgive my comments if I have not understood the new functions of Opera until now;
When the "new" Opera first came out, replacing the now named Opera Classic, we were all promised that our bookmarks which was safely saved on link.opera.com, should SOON be integrated to this new version so we would NOT loose anything. We have all been waiting forever and then suddenly they started introducing SYNC SPEED DIAL function but then BETWEEN equipments and as I have understood...between pc and phone. Ok...so then my question is..for us who DONT USE SEVERAL cellphones (call us "poor people"), having one phone...no computer...WHERE IS THE EXCELLENT SERVICE as Opera always have had...where you install Opera, log in and sync your bookmarks and speed dials and voula!..you have all your bookmarks in place again.
What do I do when I changed my phone to a new one...installs Opera..AND NEED TO START OVER AGAIN WITH NO BOOKMARKS???
OR...if I do as said from Opera support many times when you have problems with Opera...DELETE DATA and/or DEINSTALL/REINSTALL Opera...and looses all the bookmarks??
Is it really like this? Has Opera gone so BACKWORDS in technology when updating their browser compared to the competition ???
Even the smallest, known or unknown browsers offer you a servicd of syncing bookmarks like we have with Opera Classic.
Have I misunderstood everything and not been able to understand this new way of finding your existing bookmarks and/or recover them when changing equipment etc...PLEASE EXPLAIN ME... -

Opera already has bookmarks sync.
Regarding speed dial, there were some discussion about it already. Some people prefer the old way, with the same SD in all synced devices and others prefer the new approach with a different SD for each install but being able to access the SD of other devices/installs.

Assuming you have the lastest version (Opera 30) and had enabled Sync in the old phone or in the desktop version, just enable sync in the new phone to have your bookmarks back.
Opera logo on the bottom right (it may vary according to your settings) > Settings > Login to Opera (or something like that).

Is this solution depending on me having ALSO by hand my old phone, or is it only necessary to have the new phone? (As with Opera Link)
As I said...I don't want to depend a computer, and neither having by hand a certain old phone. So you say...as long as I was once logged in and synchronized speeddials ONCE, sell my phone (or loose it), buy a new one...log in with same credentials and sync...the bookmarks and speeddials comes back EXACTLY as they did with Opera Link??? -

As long as Sync had been enabled in the old phone, you doný need to have it in your hands.

Not exactly, as Sync works in a different way, but you will be able to access your Bookmarks and Speed Dials.

Julio, if your bookmarks are in opera link, you need to export them from opera 12.x and then import them into the new version of opera that you are using. If you don't have opera 12.x, I think you can still get at the bookmarks through a web interface to opera link, although I've never tried to do that.
I've just been evaluating Opera 30 and I'm incredibly disappointed. There are so many features missing - bookmarks button, home page button, search box, ability to customise the toolbar, open in new/background window. I hate opera 30, and I can no longer use 12.17 because it won't work with most interactive websites. So I'm considering going to chrome, even though I don't really like it (hard to access closed tabs, and ctrl-tab works differently).
So annoying that browsers in general seem to be going backwards in features. How anyone could think that this is a good idea is beyond me.

Thanx a lot jlownie for an amazing answer/tip.
I did find a solution, but couldnt agree more with you...opera v30 and the new system of sync bookmarks/speed dial is horrible.
Believe me my friend, I have tried so many browsers and my tip to you...don't go for Chrome...you will find more disappointment there and also with Firefox. I have the greatest suggestion for you:
Try SLEIPNIR...you will be amazed of how powerful this browser is, with A LOT of configuration options, speed dial, excellent and confident downloads, flash support, excellent videoplayback etc etc...the list could go on....
But as I said...couldn't agree more...Opera is a HUGE disappointment ....IMAGINE...for being able to answer you here in the forum, I have to use Sleipnir, because Opera goes into a kind of "loop" when I log in and never "lands" on the page with the comment form.....embarrassing for Opera no?
And it doesn't even help to send a comment/complain for ANY problem because the only answer you get is that there is something wrong with YOUR equipment.... -

@jlownie, what do you mean by interactive sites?
Speaking of a home button, MS wrote this today about Edge. Golly, so it is technically possible! It must have taken vast resources to pull this off, but MS is a big company, after all.
One of the top pieces of feedback we’ve heard from Windows Insiders is that many of you really wanted a “home” button for Microsoft Edge. In this build, we’ve provided an option for you to add it via Settings > Advanced Settings and turn on “Show the home button”.

Are you looking at the right place? There is a icon to access speed dials from other devices, you need to click on it to see the SDs of your other phone.
Opera will no populate your Speed Dial with SD entries from other devices.Opera Sync does not sync items left behind in Opera Link.
User would have to get Opera 12.1x for Android (not "classic") from the Opera FTP, enable Link, then upgrade to Opera 30+ from the Play Store or FTP. Opera 30+ will then import the profile with all the bookmarks / SDs from Link and then you can login to sync them with Sync.
That's how to do it without a PC.

Really "backwords" system in my opinion
Backwards. I agree. I'd expect Opera to migrate users automatically from Link as they login to Sync but they didn't.
The number of people who want to migrate the data after updating from Opera 12 to the new one is clearly much bigger vs the number of people who don't want the old data carried. It's a matter of giving a better experience to the majority of your userbase...
PS. I give the answer to the topic and I'm downvoted. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rafael, you're right on the money as usual. I wouldn't let the down vote concern you. There is still a remnant of negative members here on this forum for whom nothing (absolutely nothing) Opera does or could do would make them happy short of returning to Presto. In time they will be gone but until then we just exercise patience.

I didn't notice that julio66 had Link in the old browser.
I'd expect Opera to migrate users automatically from Link as they login to Sync but they didn't.
Maybe they are trying to fix sync issues before think about migration from Link?

I followed rafaelluik's steps, but had to modify it slightly. This is what I did:
-
Install "Opera Mobile" v12.0.4 (ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/android/mobile/1200/Android_Opera_Mobile_12_Opera.apk)
-
Open it and activate Opera Link and allow it to synchronize. I allowed 3-5 minutes to fetch the screen grabs.
-
Upgrade to "Opera Browser" in Play Store. Version 30.0.1856.93524 as of this post.
-
Open and verify all bookmarks are synchronized. Some folders were omitted in my first attempt.
-
Sign in to Opera (aka Opera Sync)
