Ok, I see now you can reserve your free Windows 10 for when it arrives.

My BIG question is what happens to my Opera install and all the settings included within.??

Also, what happens to ALL the rest of my 3rd party Windows 7 applications that I have installed, will they be erased, or do I have to reinstall them, like I did when I upgraded to Windows 7??

      Thanks for any insight.

You will have the choice either to keep your programs settings or making a clean install when updating

SO, you're saying most if not all of my already installed programs (including Opera) that did not come from Microsoft will be kept during and after the Windows 10 install, and then I will have to see if they manage to run under Win 10??

Also, my directories will also stay in Win 10??

Those look like questions that should be directed to Microsoft, not Opera Software.

Why don't you wait for the Windows 10 update to be published so you can read the install notes / FAQ in Microsoft's website?

Don't know how Windows 10 will handle this, but my past experience says that you probably will have your programs and their settings saved but you will need to reinstall them.

I doubt you will have to reinstall anything, The windows 10 upgrade will probably work similarly to the windows 8 > 8.1 upgrade where all your programs ect... are kept.

With how hard MS is pushing free upgrades to win 10 it would be highly unlikely that they would make users have to reinstall their apps and restore settings.

Thank you all for your comments, I probably will NOT install Windows 10 for at least 6 months after it is unleashed...and wait for the reports and problems.

A lot of the upgrade problems have been shaken out over the last 8 months or so of public testing. I think the latest tally is that 4 million people have tried Windows 10. Only a tiny number of things aren't migrated, such as some AV programs:
