Opera 12 Recommended ways to block ads on yahoo.com

I like yahoo.com. I hate the sponsored ads.

I tried to use a css file to get rid of them, but doesn't seem to work. I tried using adblock, but I realized that adblock really slows down the browser, especially on start up.

Any recommendations to block these annoying ads?

Well, if the ad blocker built into Opera 12 is slowing things down you might try blocking sites via your Hosts file. Thats a super old school way of doing it. A quick google will show you how to accomplish that.

Yeah, I do the hosts file too. Maybe it's time to update it again.

In 12, I usually look in the Info panel for whatever scripts are used to place the ads and then add those to the content blocker. No extensions, no CSS (though it will usually leave empty spaces where the ads would have been that way) ... but it's been years since I looked at Yahoo.
