      Hello,

The classic Opera 12 browser does not show up on the Play Store on Lollipop so I manually installed the APK from Opera's ftp site. The app gives me a blank screen and some other sites have said that Opera 12 doesn't work for Lollipop either.

Will the be support for Opera 12 in Lollipop? Or shall we assume that it's EOL and won't be receiving further updates?

      Thanks!

Update: Opera received an update to work on Lollipop.

As Opera 12 (or Opera Classic) is not being worked anymore - except, maybe, for security fixes - i don't thinbk they will release a new version to fix this issue.

Come on guys, for some people the Opera classic is the better browser!
I also don't want to change to another, because of the lollipop update.
I'm used to classic since i'm on Android and i love it.
Please Opera dev Team, make it work for Android 5.x.

Yes, you should assume it's EOL, as leocg said it might still receive some security updates in future.

              Well, i will do.
After using near to 5 years Opera mobile (classic), i will move on and go to another browser.
Dolphin browser seems to be the best choice for a Opera classic replacement.
Sad to say, but Dolphin is much more faster and handy to use as the actually Opera mobile.

You should try the new Opera browser for Android too.

Opera 12 ain't working as it should on both platforms s60/Android. I can't figure out why is slower than usual, kind of x2 times slower.

I've tried all versions of Opera (Classic, Mobile, Mobile beta, Mini, Mini beta).
And all i can say is, that the UI of Classic/Mini is the most userfriendly and fastest on all. Especially on phones with big screen which you want/need to use with one hand. In this both you can reach all needed things without breakingyour thumbs/fingers. I would stay with mini, but it is not as good as Classic. It often fail to load a page, or my post's in forums are somehow not there after submitted. Mini is good, to save data, but has not the power of Classic. And Classic was miles away from the now Mobile. Opera Devs should concentrate to make it more costumizable/userfriendly instead of putting in such unneeded things like "Discover". Thats not what i want and need in a browser.

Have you really tried the latest versions of the new Opera for Android? There's a layout setting in which you can select the Classic UI. The only difference is a shortcut for the Speed Dial instead of the stop/refresh button.

Of course i have tried. Or what do you think i am talking about? I know this setting, which i always used on new mobile. But exactly this stop/refresh button is one point which i suffer from. I live in an area where we don't have fast internet speed on mobile. Most time only Edge is available. Most time i look into forums to check my subscribed threads. But often the browser loads the webside to death, because of the low Edge speed. And this is bad for my limited data plan (from my provider). So i often have to stop the loading of the page. And in times of smartphones where 5" is a standart size, this damn stop button has moved on new mobile up to address bar which i can't reach with my thumb in one hand use. Yes, i can start to learn to live with it. But i don't want, because i'm used the last ~5 years to have all buttons in the Navigation bar. And i also don't see a reason for that, because other browsers like Dolphin still have this feature available where i want it. And all other buttons too! And the second thing i hate is the tab switcher. With Classic i could easily switch between all tabs, also when i had 10-15 open, without scrolling! With the new mobile, i see 3 tabs, thats it. And if i have to switch between different tabs, i can scroll to come back to the tab i need. Well, long story short: i would still use classic, if available on Lollipop, best browser on Android ever. Or i would use mini with the same UI as classic, but it sucks sometimes in loading page, don't open links (staying in same page) or doesn't submit my written post. Sorry, but thats simply only my experience.

You can use the device's back button as "stop"...
But beware, you may end up hitting it after loading is complete and that'll work as back lol, much like you could accidentally reload in the combined stop-reload button.

By default HTTP timeout is set to 10 and perhaps this value must be adjusted via opera:config when loading spinner is on for a long time.

Maybe there are some "hacks" or "workarounds". But sorry, that is not what i want. I want usability, i want to use my phone with one hand! And i always only can mention a flagship phone size from 5" up to almost 6". Opera Classic was the best choice, but now it is dead. The King is dead, long live the King...

If you mean the layout setting, i know that and i explained above why that is not enough for me.
If you mean something else, please explain detailed!

And some suggestions from my side for future releases of Opera mobile: While loading a webpage, dolphin uses/replaces the forward button with a stop loading button. Seem logic, as while you are loading a page, you can't go forward. And make the scrolling of tabs faster, or let the people decide (like the UI) if they want the actually tab switcher with three tabs visible and fade in/out animation or the old tab switcher where you can see at least until ten tabs.

opera classic is not fast like it was.. example i use opera classic and one special Opera 12 Mobile Lab ( same browser with option for extentions ). and opera mobile lab is faster than opera classic.. but classic is faster than new opera 27 broswer with bugs crashing and no bookmark sync.. there will be no update for classic so afer couple of years wee will be forced to find new browser.. will that be dolphin or UC or new vivaldi firefox wee will see.. but for sure will not be this new opera if they continue to make wrong steps

                                      Thanks!

I would like to find some time in the team to sort this out. We appreciate that there are a lot of people that like Opera Classic and even though we most likely won't be adding any new features to it we certainly don't want to abandon loyal users who upgrade their phone. I can't say anything about when this could happen.

I do hope that if you have a phone that can run Lollipop, you will give Opera for Android a spin before you settle for Opera Classic. We will improve memory usage over the next couple of releases.

I understand exactly what OP is saying, and I too was disappointed when I updated my Nexus to Lollipop and realized that Opera Classic was no longer working. I have been a fan of Opera browsers since Windows Mobile and have used it on every one of my devices since then. However, I'm not a huge fan of the new Opera browser, so please give us back our Opera Classic.

                                        Thank you.

Why? What's the problem with the new Opera?
Opera Software is not developing the old Presto-based Classic versions anymore, so give constructive feedback so they can make the new one better so you can eventually jump to it. Anything different than that is not happening, unless you choose to switch to another completely different browser.
