        @gonsl

        I am not asking to replace any other bookmarks system, just return the optional basic, simple, functional sidebar.

        For an example, most of Chrome users doesn't even know that sidebar could exist in browser. And this crowd is happy about the browser they use.

        I didnt know OPera was a re-skinned chrome browser, no wonder it looks exactly like google chrome.

        New Opera follows Chrome's philosophy. No extended customizability. Simplicity. No "geek" functions such as fully functional bookmark manager, customizable controllability(gestures, keyboard, UI controls), no flexible UI etc. Sidebar, definitely, is a "geek" function for marginal part of the new Opera's user base. BTW, sidebar was disabled by default in Opera 12.

        @ozoratsubasa

        Chromium does have a really awful UI. The worst among all browsers.

          Opera has its own UI, not the same as Chrome, as i know.

          But extending the UI to the state you want is not completely currently done by Opera Developers.

            And the bookmarks bar isn't a suitable replacement because?

            Because you can open more bookmarks faster with one click.

            It is possible in the c code (e.g. like the developer tools window) but not as Extension you can download via the store. There are some extensions for Chrome, that add a "sidebar". The problem with these Extensions is: The "sidebar" is a new Window and not included in the Browser window. The usability of this just sucks, because of complicated resizing and because of overlapping of content.

              Right, which you can do from the bookmarks bar. I really don't see what the problem is. The bookmarks bar is a horizontal sidebar in everything but name.

                Can the bookmarks bar show bookmarks in 'tree' form with many lines of fully-named bookmark folders, subfolders, and entries expanded in whatever manner needed to enhance access and easy manipulation of a logically-organized bookmarks/folder structure? Because that's what you can do with a well-designed sidebar.

                  In the bookmarks bar if you click a folder it and its sub-folders are displayed just like in the Windows start menu prior to Windows 8. If you want more than then we eagerly await your submission of an extension to improve this already great web browser.

                    Look, I'm only providing some background regarding the OP's point of view about the importance of a sidebar bookmarks display to those who (like myself) rely on a complex bookmarking system for their browsing. For such users, a bookmarks bar, while important, doesn't display nearly enough information in a single "view" for maintaining/manipulating the organization of a complex bookmarking system. That's reality to such users. For users less dependent on well-organized bookmarking, sure, the bookmarks bar as it now exists may indeed be adequate.

                    The initial post was a request (and explanation) for Opera to consider adding a bookmarks sidebar... and probably it should have been posted to the suggestions forum instead. But, nevertheless, it represents a pool of potential Opera users (like myself) who all deem such capability significant, if not critical, to a browser. Rather than design, code, debug and submit a sidebar extension as you suggest, these users are far more likely to adopt another browser that does provide such capabilities (and there are some). And that loss, however great or small it may be, represents a loss of users for Opera. Just something to keep in mind...

                      I am in the "I need folders with sub folders that have sub folders, many of which will have sub folders" camp. It is much easier to organize and navigate my several hundred bookmarked pages this way. And if Opera is just a reskin of chrome, then I guess I'm done. There is a reason I used Opera and not Chrome. I started using Opera back in the late 90's because its UI was so far ahead of everything else. It took a few years, but every other browser slowly started to look and act like Opera. It's a sad day for me to know that Opera has quite leading and is now just one of the pack. I guess i'll keep using V12 until it just doesn't work anymore.

                        The bookmarks side bar was THE ONLY REASON why I loved Opera. I'll stick to the old version until I can and will quit later. What a shame!

                          How old is the current version of Opera? 2 Years. Do you expect the Opera dev team to completely recreate 18 years of Opera advancement from scratch in 2 years? If it was your job and your boss came to you with a demand like that could you manage it?

                          It took a few years, but every other browser slowly started to look and act like Opera.
                          I guess i'll keep using V12 until it just doesn't work anymore.

                          And that was the dev teams problem. They were spending so much time and resources on just keeping their custom renderer working with the web that they didn't have time to keep the UI up to date. They don't have the time, money or resources of Microsoft and Google to do that kind of stuff. So they made a very difficult decision; they abandoned Presto and moved to Blink. So they had to start from scratch on an engine that was primarily maintained by someone else so they could focus on UI and features. Because it was a different engine they couldn't just slap the old UI over the top of it, they had to start over.

                          Starting over takes time. They've spent quite a bit of time listening to users and trying to anticipate what they want and what they need. Want to know why the bookmarks sidebar wasn't included at the start? Because the browser didn't have bookmarks at all when it launched v15. They were only added back in like 2 versions ago. If you really want to see a shitstorm look at the mess around forgoing bookmarks for "the stash" caused. But they listened to us and brought bookmarks back. Still, making this grandiose proclamations about how much you've done for the browser and how you will leave for something else (that you admit strait away is only as good at best and inferior at worst) is pretty entitled. Especially considering you've paid zero dollars for it.

                                    You can use the feature like Bookmark Panel and Window Panel by this addon. https://addons.opera.com/ja/extensions/details/vtabs-opera/?display=en

                                          Ah, they released an update I didn't catch. I sometimes leave Opera open for days or even weeks at a time and updates only install when you restart it. Unless I go to the dev blog I can miss updates and that looks to be what has happened.
