      Hi guys,
I updated my old Opera 11.51, by clicking "check for updates" on help menu. It updated existing version to 12.17, but i know, Opera 25 is out for Windows, and i'm using Windows 7 SP1.

Using Opera 12.17 which was just updated a few minutes ago, clicking "check for updates" showing me that 12.17 is the latest which is wrong.

      Here is the screenshot:

Why cannot i update to Opera 25 by clicking "check for updates" option? What's wrong?

Opera switched to a new rendering engine. The old one was Presto, the new one is based on Chromium. The old version can't be updated. You'll have to download the new one manually. Be prepared for huge changes. Many features found in older versions of Opera are changed or missing from the new version. They are slowly re-adding many of them but some, like built in email and IRC, aren't coming back. Just a heads up.

Nothing. Opera 15 (and later) installer was not intended to upgrade Opera 12.

Download Opera 25, install it and then uninstall Opera 12.

Shouldn't i first uninstall Opera 12, then install Opera 25 which is generally advised for ages?

Thanks, so this is normal behaviour?

Yes, its normal. Opera 12 dead ended. To upgrade to a newer version you must download it manually. Once you you have a newer version installed you can update it just like you normally would have. You can have both installed at the same time as long as you don't have them installed into the same directory. No need to uninstall the old Opera. many of us still run the old version because of missing features.

Remember to install in different folders.

No, because Opera 25 should import your bookmarks etc. from Opera 12 when it's first run, which it obviously can't do if you've uninstalled it!
Only uninstall Opera 12 if you don't want to keep it when you're completely happy with Opera 25.
                  🙂

                    Opera 12 dead ended.

I wouldn't say that, Opera 12.16 on Linux is still supported, though not developed any more on any platform, as Linux is not graced with a stable release of the Blink version of Opera that officially supports being installed on most Linux distributions, yet. And the fact that millions of people still use the Presto version (for their own reasons) either on it's own or as a complement to another browser.

It may not be developed any more, but it certainly isn't dead.

There is no need to uninstall Opera 12, it can live together with Opera 25+ without problems. As said, just install it in a different folder if you don't want their files to be together in the same folder.
