        Just to clarify. All pages load normally. However with any page that uses java applets the applets do not appear to load at all - on Firefox you get a popup asking you permission to run the applet, no sign of that in Opera. eg the Independent crossword site: http://www.independent.co.uk/extras/puzzles/crosswords/?crosswordType=cryptic where the crossword, which is run in an applet, fails to load. Java was updated via the Java control panel interface and clearly came from oracle. Opera 12.16 on Windows 7 x64.

          It's exactly as davews said.
          I use a trading online platform where the pages are a kind of mosaic of applets. I can see only the mosaic grid, applets remain empty/unloaded.

          I upgraded java 7 by the java control panel, then I uninstalled an reinstalled java 8 with the offline (and then again with the online) installer, downloaded from www.java.com.
          Trying the "test page" ( https://www.java.com/verify/ ) you have no response at all.
          Test page works fine with firefox.

                    This is related to Java? If not, please search for a more appropriate thread or create a new one.

                      Yep same here with Java 7 update 71. No java applets loading any more. Have downloaded a copy of update 67 and deleted update 71 to get things moving again

                        Temp solution:

                        Unistalled u25, reinstalled previous u20 x64, working fine.

                          Finally, after a lot of wasted time, I found the Java 8 update 20 in the archive of old versions (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-javase8-2177648.html), as suggested by some of you, and fortunately this one is working with the pages I visit. This is what I would also recommend to all of you.
                          Thanks for your support!

                            If you're using Opera 32 bit on a 64 bit Windows 7 system, I assume you would reinstall java 8 update 20 Windows x86 version...correct?

                              HELP!

                              I uninstalled java 8.0.25, and installed java 8.0.20, and now when I go to the test java page I get this box::

                              "For security, applications must now meet the requirements for the High or Very High security settings, or be part of the Exception Site List, to be allowed to run. More Information."

                              then below that there is another line that says,

                              "Your security settings have blocked a self signed application from running."

                              I believe this is something that was enabled when I had installed update 25 and now it was not changed when I uninstalled it

                              What now??

                              HELP again.

                                      They changed the format of the security settings tab in the Java control panel in recent versions.
                                      It may be that the settings from your previous (later) version stuck.
                                      Run the applet in the Windows Control Panel, and look at the Security tab.
                                      There should be a slider set to the mid position by default (high).
                                      If it isn't set to that change it and see if it will now let things run.
                                      🙂

                                        Hi guys!

                                        I had same problems as davews:

                                        Just to clarify. All pages load normally. However with any page that uses java applets the applets do not appear to load at all - on Firefox you get a popup asking you permission to run the applet, no sign of that in Opera. eg the Independent crossword site: http://www.independent.co.uk/extras/puzzles/crosswords/?crosswordType=cryptic where the crossword, which is run in an applet, fails to load. Java was updated via the Java control panel interface and clearly came from oracle. Opera 12.16 on Windows 7 x64.

                                        If you have installed 64-bit Java version, but your web browser is 32-bit, then you should also install 32-bit Java version, as is prompted on this page on Java website: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

                                        We have detected you may be viewing this page in a 32-bit browser. If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java in order to have the Java plug-in for both browsers.

                                        It helps in my case 🙂
                                        Cheers!

                                            Java Verify failure unable to Configure Java Control Panel does not open ( Fix : )
                                            this is a regular ( windows 7 bug related ) problem after successful installation of Java ( jre ) and fresh installation of Windows7 64bit or 32bit on my laptop or desktop. what worked perfectly for me was setting COMPATIBILITYMODE=WINDOWSNT to make windows launch the JP2LAUNCHER.EXE and JAVAW.EXE files properly.
                                            jp2launcher.exe windowsNT compatibility solves Java Verify failure problem at https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
                                            javaw.exe windowsNT compatibility solves unable to open or Configure Java Control Panel problem.

                                            *  search for JAVAW.EXE   inside  c:\program files\java\....\bin
                                                  or  c:\program files(x86)\java\.....\bin\
                                            * right-click mouse on JAVAW application icon logo
                                            *  click  PROPERTIES
                                            *  click  COMPATIBILITY
                                            * tick the checkbox at COMPATIBILITY MODE
                                            * choose WINDOWS NT service pack
                                            * click APPLY or click OK

                                            Now, the Configure Java Control Panel will start opening and working.

                                            *  search for JP2LAUNCHER.EXE   inside  c:\program files\java\....\bin
                                                  or  c:\program files(x86)\java\.....\bin\
                                            *  right-click mouse on  JP2LAUNCHER
                                            *  click  PROPERTIES
                                            *  click  COMPATIBILITY
                                            * tick the checkbox at COMPATIBILITY MODE
                                            * choose WINDOWS NT service pack
                                            * click APPLY or click OK

                                            Now, the Verify Java will be successful at https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

                                            if we find 2 or 3 versions of JP2LAUNCHER and JAVAW when we search, then we must repeat the above for all of them.

                                            in the Configure Java Control Panel Advanced tab we can set "Do not check" certificate revocation and disable security verification. and in the Security tab we may Edit Site List... for the Exception Site List ( add URLs to unblock sites )
