The dialog is meant to allow you to force-quit any plug-in that is running rampantly in the background and stealing your computer’s resources. Please contact the plug-in vendors (in this case Adobe) if you see this dialog often. Opera is making a browser, not a browser plug-in.

(The alternative is letting the plug-ins just eat your MacBook’s battery in the background without you understanding why you get the Low Battery warning after only ten minutes of use.)

Similar problem here. After my Mac goes to sleep both Shockwave and Google Talk pop up with "Shockwave / Google Talk has stopped responding." I then need to reload whatever pages were using these plugins.

Having the problem again. Constantly. I like this browser because of the clean speed dial / stash. May have to look for alternatives soon if there is no update.

OPERA - WAKE UP! PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN ONGOING IN THIS FORUM FOR 2 MONTHS. SHOCKWAVE PROBLEMS HAPPEN CONTINUALLY. I HAVE LATEST MAC OS, LATEST SHOCKWAVE, MY CACHES ARE CLEARED.
OPERA - THE PROBLEM IS AT YOUR END. I LIKE YOUR BROWSER A LOT BUT YOU WILL LOSE ME AS A CUSTOMER SOON IF YOU DON'T FIT THIS PROBLEM.
VERY ANNOYING THAT OPERA DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM INSTEAD OF SHIFTING IT ONTO (DUMB, OUT OF DATE) CUSTOMERS.
GRRRR. IM SICK OF THIS SHOCKWAVE ANNOYANCE.

This really is past being merely annoying. The 'disable Shockwave' popup is popping up many times every day in a variety of tabs with any number of different websites. I have reïnstalled Opera as well as the Shockwave plugin—all to no avail. That plugin must be enabled for lots of web content so leaving it off (as I might prefer to do, given the choice) is unfortunately not a viable option. I'm a longtime user of Opera but may soon find myself a former user if this isn't corrected very soon. There are lots of other browsers out there.

                    Opera 23.0.1522.77, Mac OS X 10.9.4 64-bit

We implemented some changes recently, this should appear less frequently now. The changes are already available on developer stream, will be in Next stream today, soon will come to Stable as well.

After finally getting fed up with constant Shock Wave errors on the most recent stable build ( using osx 10.9.4) ( and it happened no matter what other programs i had open or if it was one tab or many tabs) I sat down to take a look at this problem and this is what i did which has proved to work so far ( tested for about 4 hours of use on Facebook which is where i was seeing this almost exclusively)

First I checked into /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.Opera And looked int he LIB section of Extensions. The only thing I found to be out of place was 2 extensions that were labeled Chrome( which i have never installed) so i went ahead and trashed those 2 files.

I've experienced similar issues in the past when using opera next but that was with java, and i remembered how I had fixed that on my own so i thought I'd try it out for this issue as well.

                        ~Steps to fix~

I searched out the Adobe Flash removal tool and found it here: uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg Please note this is for 10.6.8 and higher older versions have a different version, which you can find on your own.

You will need to make sure all web browsers and system preferences are closed before you run this, Just to be Sure, I recommend Going to your apple logo int he top left and choosing Force Quit and closing out of everything open (finder stays open all the time so skip that one) Run the Uninstall tool and then Reboot your machine, it make take some extra time to start up this round as it has to save the changes it made, I then opened my System preferences and made sure Flash was not showing any longer. After I opened Opera and verified that Facebook and other locations I had see the issue previously, was no longer crashing. Went to the Adobe Site, downloaded the Flash player ( made sure to uncheck the extra content they wanted to give me) and then installed. Once it was done i rebooted once more, opened opera and everything was fixed. I've had several tabs open for the last few hours and so far not a single hiccup, side note opera seems to be a bit lighter on it's feet as well.

                        Hope this Helps everyone!
                        Hock~

chockenbury: can you explain how I can "check into /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.Opera And looked in the LIB section of Extensions" ?

I updated Opera Next from Ver. 24.0.1558.43 to Ver. 24.0.1558.51. The number of times I watched this alert increased!

Same here. Just updated to the latest Opera 24 stable and reinstalled flash and everything. Still happens.

My most recent alert was from tunein.com when I was trying to play a stream. I forgot other sites which the alert pops-up to as well.

It happens on my Windows 8.1 too but I haven't encountered the alert after I updated that one to 24 Stable. I'll try to monitor it though.

I'm having a similar issue but I'm not a Mac. I'm on a desktop, HP. When I first got it I just thought it was wierd that this little facebook game was slowing down my big computer. I play a lot more graphic intensive games. After it started getting annoying I decided to see if others were having this issue and found this site. Hopefully my info will help you guys out. Since I'm not on a mac, thus it's not mac specific.

                                This is the About Opera:
                                Opera Version 24.0.1558.53
                                Windows 7 64-bit (WoW64)

                                My adobe flash is 14,0,0,179

I have done numerous cache clears and even tried adding RAM memory usage for the game since it seems to occur more frequently when I'm playing the game. But granted, fb and games is mostly what I do online. lol The game is from G! (Game Insight) on facebook. Spefically "The Tribez & Castlez"). Maybe you can get it to show for you by playing that game?

What happens is.. I get this flash-by pop up that says shockwave is slowing my computer. Do I want to end or wait. It's so quick I can't get a snap shot though. 😞 But it seems to be the reason I'm slowing up because once it's done, after a few secs things level out and play well. So I'm not actually seeing a slow down other than on start of game and seeing that pop up.

Also noticed with this (may or may not be relevant) , though I rarely have more than one window/tab going... when I do have more tabs? Like say for weather radar? That radar shows over the screen of my other opened tabs shockwave box. Just the box for the shockwave (ex, the radar box or the game box section will show over another one on the other tab.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can offer more info so you guys can trouble shoot.
Like the others I do not have this problem with other browsers. But I love my opera! lol So I'm hoping you guys figure out why shockwave and opera are not playing nice together. 😉

Why do you post Windows problems here?
And why do you mix Flash Player problems with Shockwave player problems? These players are different!

I moved to the Developer Build (25.0.1613.1) on Mac OS X 10.9.4 64-bit and I still get the same (mis)behaviour with the Shockwave plugin. Absolutely no change from the regular build at all. I tried ALL of the various remedies suggested in this thread with no improvement at all. Is there any plan at Opera to actually do anything about this—ever?

It's been a pain in my ass for the last few weeks recently i just uninstalled the current adobe flash(14) version and installed version 13, everything seems to be working fine. Not happy i had to do this but it works great now, hope there are other ways to solve the problem.

Just upgraded to the new 24 build and still having problems with the Shockwave plugin, still get a popup that says it's slowing down my mac and I get the spinning beach ball. This is really a pain and I'm surprised that with so many complaints that the Opera people cannot fix this.

I've uninstalled the Flash player and done everything I know how to do, followed all the suggestions. No luck.

There must be thousands of people who have this problem and have just given up and gone to another browser which is what I will have to do. I like the features of the Opera browser that no other browser has, but it become such a pure pain to use that I'll just have to go back to Safari.

Please, Opera people... fix this. Thank you.
