      Hi All,

have there been any announcements regarding further development of this excellent programme? As a company, we tried switching to MailBird, which has some excellent & innovative ideas re social media/email integration but switched back because Opera Mail deals with IMAP better and also has a much faster/better search function.

I know email isn't 'sexy' and maybe a little 'old hat' for some but I can't believe that no one is really innovating in this area. Back in the day, Opera Mail was a real eye opener compared to others and hasn't really moved on, which is such a shame as we all use email. Having something modern and integrated would be such an advantage.

For what it is worth, these are some of the things that I would like to see in an email programme...

Integration with Social Media, especially in the area of contacts
Opera Mail phone app that shares contacts etc
More options such as stripping of repeated signatures, multiple placement options for your signature etc
Possibly a live chat function (so I can stop using Skype :D)

I wouldn't bet on any development for Opera Mail, at least on a near future.

Why is a shame, because it seems like no one is developing better email software. Which is such a shame as it is something that we all use.

Actually fewer and fewer people are using email the way they once did with email clients. Statistically folks are using webmail accounts, texting, messaging and going through social sites to communicate. Email clients as we knew them are not as popular as they were ten years ago. My personal belief is that Opera will ultimately drop email altogether so if you rely upon a client, you might want to consider The Bat or Thunderbird.

Unfortunately I have tried both of those and found them both wanting.

Actually I don't agree with assessment of email but only because I am coming from it as a work tool rather than a personal thing. While I agree that a lot of personal messages are sent via other means, work is almost exclusively carried out via email.

The problem here is the ever present Outlook I would imagine coupled with bespoke clients for some bigger companies.

Interestingly, I would be prepared to pay a reasonable amount of money for a good email client as it isn't something that I would expect to be free.
