Opera should get rid of Google

That's horrible... Opera 16-19 will have Google as standard search engine and you can't even change it.
You have the Option to chose between 5 other search enginges, but you cannot use one of your other search engines as standard. Does this make any sense??

Now we have Opera 23 (as next version) and still I cannot make any other search engine the default engine. Do you think this will ever happen?

Sgunhouse just told you that you can change it to a default that is not Google, so relax.

You can change it to Bing, Yahoo!, Yandex in some regions and even Baidu in others I believe. Workarounds like the Disconnect Search extension and keywords are available for other search engines. Case closed.
Other topics talk about the same thing but yours start with a lie.

Other topics talk about the same thing but yours start with a lie.I understand what flexman meant, he would like to choose his personal choice for his browser use,as would many other users. Opera developers have been bought out by the google $$$ carrot. For those who want to use any other search engines other than the lame one's opera chooses that are not more secure than startpage or duckduckgo as they would like you to believe. So to those who want to customize their browser I suggest they look elsewhere as I have until opera developers allow users the choice they deserve as many other top browser developers offer. Opera developers used to lead but now follow the heels of google....too bad.

Google didn't take any choice away. Yahoo!, Bing, Yandex and Baidu can be easily set as default while there are workarounds for others.

It doesn't matter where the option is hidden in the UI. The point is the file where a default search engine info is stored would still be exploitable (modified by third-parties to inject a default search engine you didn't chose).
