For the moment, the Bookmark Importer is made for importing only bookmarks in Opera Presto (the old Opera) (latest version of it is Opera 12.17). Now We are currently at Opera 22. My understanding is that Opera is working on making the Bookmarks Importer work with 3rd Party Browsers, like Firefox. I know it was initially being worked on for Opera 23, but at this point, I don't know whether that will be implemented in Opera 23 or later.
So, the only way to get Firefox bookmarks into Opera at this moment is to piggyback on Opera 12.17 -- that is, get the Firefox bookmarks into that browser, and then to use the Bookmarks importer in Opera 22. If you're going to do that, I would suggest completely uninstalling Opera 22, and then installing Opera 12.17 first. Once using Opera 12.17, click on File, Import and Export, and then, Import Firefox Bookmarks. After you import Firefox Bookmarks into Opera 12.17, then re-install Opera 22. Hopefully at that point the Bookmarks Importer will not be greyed out. Because the Importer has been on occasion a bit tempermental, here's a thread that gives suggestions. Leocg's comment in the thread is important, and it is based on that comment that I suggest completely uninstalling Opera 22 first, and then installing Opera 12.17 (to accomplish the importing of bookmarks from Firefox).

Once in Opera 22 (after the reinstallation), remember to activate the Personal Bookmarks Bar. Go Ctrl P (settings), and put a check in Show the Bookmarks Bar. And of course, click on the Opera Menu, More Tools, and the Bookmarks Importer.

Very interesting. I looked it up and I'm guessing this is what you're referring to?
http://transmute-portable.en.softonic.com/
I don't know what this means, but they say on the review as a con, that it:"Always overwrites current bookmarks unless you upgrade to the Pro version. It sounds like this is okay, if you have no bookmarks on Opera 22, and want to, let's say, move Firefox bookmarks to it. Then the overwriting of what's on Opera 22 would not be an issue. Also, they say: "Though Transmute Portable is perfect for technophobes who panic at the thought of exploring browser menus, it's definitely too simple for the computer-savvy, who may miss advanced options." Not sure what this means.
I just don't know for sure whether it would work for Opera 22. It does sound promising.

Since transmute hasn't been updated since 2011, I'm guessing it's for the old Opera.

According to my experience the only way to to this is the following:
- open Google Chrome and import Firefox bookmarks
- then copy Chrome bookmark folder at "C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks"
- and insert them to "C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Next\Bookmarks"
It sounds complicated, but it works in my case.
If you have no Google Chrome installed I see no other reasonable possibilty.

@albaris48
You can do it as I described earlier in detail. it's also a reasonable approach. (There are, you know, many ways to skin a cat ;)). Install Opera 12.17. Import Firefox bookmarks into 12.17, which version of Opera specifically imports from Firefox). Then simply Install Opera 22, and use the bookmarks importer, which was designed to work importing bookmarks from Opera 12.xx

What happens if you have Chrome on your computer also? You have Chrome and Opera 22 on Computer. If you select the destination as Chrome, where would the Firefox bookmarks go? -- Chrome? or Opera 22 where you want them?

First do it a copy of bookmarks, and copy to another folder.
Bookmarks will save where you want. Just change the save destination, if you don't u will overwrite the file, then copy bookmarks to Chrome folder or to Opera folder manualy.

Thanks albatros48, this method works with Chrome 35 to Opera 22. Easy and effective. Even the folders
struture is the same. Just wonder why Opera developers didnt include this function to the latest release, when it
s that easy to do manually. -
