Hello, first i want to apologize about my english, and maybe some.. words that aren't the right terms in english.
So I have a big problem because I used to be on opera 12.17, and I decided to up to 22. Then I started happy, discovering a new interface, new features, and then as I do with all my software, I start to touch the settings. And I start to be scared about that.
1st : search engine by default is google, ok no problem i want to remove it and put startpage.so first bug to report : i can't. I just can't put by default another search engines that what opera propose me. Why ?
Second bug : i want to edit yahoo search engine, because the key word is put on 'y', and I want Youtube on 'y', what's the problem with that ?
third problem : i can't remove any search engine proposed by default by opera. Why ? mystery...ok that's the problem with search engine. Now, the other features that convinced me to stay in opera :
the bar on the left, that had a fast access to the download, historic, information about the page, to test what the page do on a little screen... what happened to it ? I search it without success. What about the new "Fast Access" (if it's the right term in English) now there's : google search bar + 3 icon that i'll never use, and a search bar for my website in fast access. How to remove all ? On the 12.17 it was easy with a right click & all the settings i wanted were here.
and I can continue with option about javascript, cookies, etc. etc. etc. etc. many things that i liked about opera.
What I did wasn't an update but a huge regression. To solve the problem is simple : go back to opera 12.17! but will this version will be/is supported ? for how many time ? go to another web browser must be the most reliable solution in long term...
Oh, I forgot. I'm this stupid or all that I said is true and I'm right telling this is a regression ? -

1st : search engine by default is google, ok no problem i want to remove it and put startpage.
so first bug to report : i can't. I just can't put by default another search engines that what opera propose me. Why ?>There are only five default search engines in Opera. The reason is because ad-ware/malware was hijacking people's searches to unsafe sites. You can still add Startpage to Opera, by going to the website where there is a Startpage search bar, and right clicking on it. See link below
https://startpage.com/eng/download-startpage-plugin.html
Then create the search engine, and pay attention to the letter or letters assigned it. It will probably just be an S. Then you can do your search from main Opera address bar, and just type that letter, let's say "s" [space] and the search query.
Second bug : i want to edit yahoo search engine, because the key word is put on 'y', and I want Youtube on 'y', what's the problem with that ?>
There was something posted on this in the Opera forum, but I can't find it. The search engine for the forum is very weak. I did find this link on reddit, which discusses your issue. I think if you can delete the Yahoo search engine, you can then
add the initials you want for YouTube, though is it worth the work? And then you would seemingly have to redo it every update. I made my YouTube search yo [space] query. I mean setting a new letter/letters is the easiest work-around. But that's for you to decide.http://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/comments/20d8v4/i_cant_delete_search_default_search_engines/
third problem : i can't remove any search engine proposed by default by opera. Why ? mystery...>
The reddit link suggests it can be done, but you have to fiddle with it on each update. (I don't think you can remove that google default from the main address bar though. No big deal, just don't use it. Use Startpage with the initial or initials preceding the search) (you know, "s" [space] search query.
ok that's the problem with search engine. Now, the other features that convinced me to stay in opera :
the bar on the left, that had a fast access to the download, historic, information about the page, to test what the page do on a little screen... what happened to it ? I search it without success.>I think it's no more, but I have trouble following your description.
What about the new "Fast Access" (if it's the right term in English) now there's : google search bar + 3 icon that i'll never use, and a search bar for my website in fast access. How to remove all ? On the 12.17 it was easy with a right click & all the settings i wanted were here.>
Do you mean the Speed Dial. You can remove the Google Search bar on the Speed Dial by going into Power User Mode.
You go to settings, Alt P, the click outside the search box with the mouse, and then follow the instructions about the arrow keys. Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right b a
Once in Power Mode look for under Search Page, "hide the search box speed dial" and put a check in it.
and I can continue with option about javascript, cookies, etc. etc. etc. etc. many things that i liked about opera.
What I did wasn't an update but a huge regression. To solve the problem is simple : go back to opera 12.17! but will this version will be/is supported ? for how many time ? go to another web browser must be the most reliable solution in long term...
Oh, I forgot. I'm this stupid or all that I said is true and I'm right telling this is a regression ?>Not a regression. And advance, though surely progress is in the eyes of the beholder. Opera switched search engines from Presto to Blink. The Presto engine was not capable of accessing many sites, and was to some degree out-of-date. As a result of the change in search engines, the new Opera Blink had to be re-programmed from scratch. That means that many features that were in Opera 12, are not currently in Opera 22. Some may ultimately be added [it takes time] and others likely never will be. The Blink engines has some immediate, very clear advantages -- it's significantly faster, is able to access a full range of internet sites, can make use of Opera extensions, AND ALSO the extensions in the Chrome Store, as long as you download the Opera extension, called Download Chrome extension. Furthermore, Opera 22 has additional features, including a speed dial (with folders), much more advanced than the Speed Dial in Opera 12. You can create a link/thumbnail, and then a second one, drag the second one over the first one, and then for a speed dial position, you have a folder. Every speed dial position can be a folder, if you want, so you can display a lot more in limited space -- have essential speed dials within a speed dial. It also has other features -- Discover, Stash, Off-Rode Mode, and more, though this is not a complete list. Opera is committed to developing the new Opera -- Opera 22 right now, and in the foreseeable future. You can continue to use Opera 12.17 if you chose, but it's in a suspended state -- not being worked on any more.

ok thx work well to remove google search bar, and to remove basic search engines. Sad that konami code don't give "real" power user mode as on 12.17...
so i think i'll just wait and see if they put back real settings and all features I liked on 12.17....

You can use both versions of Opera on your computer, if you want. That way, you can be comfortable with Opera 12.17, but get used to the new version also. It may take some getting used to, but it has some advantages and new features, so I thought I'd just pass along the thought that you can, if you chose, enjoy both.
