@GerritDamen I only mentioned the fact that this is not a discussion about a bug because the subject was brought to the surface. If it doesn't happen,, I won't have why come here and talk about that.

@leocg What exactly are you doing here? This thread is about a feature request.

@GerritDamen Being the one who made this thread and also still getting notifications despite moving to a different browser at this point, I get your sentiment. However, I don't think attacking a moderator is ever going to result in getting what we want. They're not the ones to get mad at, they're just a volunteer. The only way anything is going to change is if more people move away from this browser as a result of this "feature". I've never seen another browser that doesn't let me turn off these stupid shortcuts.

Is there a fix so yet? I'm a music major so I'm constantly searching key signatures and this "feature" is the most annoying shit ever. At the very least, an option to disable this would be extremely helpful.

@chromeskeli There's no change in this area. Opera still purposely restricts modifications of the default search engines.

found this thread after many frustrating minutes of attempting to search for a query related to crystallography. congrats to Opera for making my decision to finally switch to Brave browser that much easier

Here to chime in after searching for it, this "feature" causes a very explicit problem when trying to search anything in Welsh, as we use the letter y to mean "the". I know ours isn't the most common language, but a way to disable or alter this so that I can search in my own language would be nice, because it's not just annoying, it's actively detrimental to anyone searching in Welsh.

@Skai-high I have a solution. For example, you want to search for "y something" in Google, you type "g y something" in the search bar, and it'll work.

Opera GX now has an option in Early Bird to turn off the shortcuts. Maybe regular Opera will have it eventually.
