You can't and from what I'm reading, the Blink version will be a forced update on ALL Opera users in the next few months, unless their time frame has changed.

But you can't find any statement saying that the update will remove Opera 12 in the process. 12 will probably remain installed after/if/when the update to the new Opera is delivered just like the actual installer does (leaves Opera 12 and earlier intact).How can I stop this from happening?
The problem is the update package (for Opera 12.17 BTW, not Opera-Blink) was downloaded somewhere in your profile already. You must find this file and also remove the file which works to track the update status. -

Opera will be forcing the Blink version on ALL users with an upcoming update. I never said anything about deleting 12 and your "12 will probably remain" guess is nothing more than a baseless opinion. I hope this isn't you putting thought into your rebuttals.

is something the author of an article on ZDNet wrote, NOT OPERA SOFTWARE.The actual text of the interview:

Opera will be forcing the Blink version on ALL users with an upcoming update.
If/when that happens it'll come only for people who haven't disabled auto-update, obviously. And as I said it doesn't look like they'd be forced to take the update. Kolandra from Opera Software uses the words "offer" and "recommend".your "12 will probably remain" guess is nothing more than a baseless opinion
Any guess on the opposite happening would also be a baseless opinion. -

Still using Opera 12.15 and loving it. I have disabled auto-update BUT each time I start Opera the "Check for updates" window asks me if I want to install the latest updates. Why is this happening? It's dosabled. I also changed the name of the auto-update file opera_autoupdate.exe to opera_autoupdateDISABLED.exe and it still wants to update. I've even DELETED that file (though NOT this time) and it still wants to update.
It's probably because the new version (12.17) was already downloaded and is ready to be installed. So blocking autoupdate will not change anything in this case.

So where the heck would I find the update package for Opera 12.17... or any other update version?
Maybe I should "fake" a download of it and see it's file-name and then I could search my computer for it.

Ok I just searched my system for the update file-names for Opera 12.17 and Opera 20 and found nothing.
Not sure how to stop this but from what I've been reading in this forum I will most likely be terminating my use of Opera soon anyways... their bookmark bar SUCKS (among other things)......

YOU NAILED IT BIGTIME......
Yup the update files in the %temp% folder were responsible for attempting to update Opera all the time. I didn't deleted the folder... I just renamed the 3 update files and inserted the word DISABLED ino their names.
Thank you for the suggestion... I would not have thought about that on my own!
