      Hey everyone,

I've noticed that Opera keeps launching automatically every time I start my computer on Windows 10. I’ve already checked the Task Manager’s startup tab and disabled Opera there, but it still shows up when I boot up.

I’ve also gone through Opera’s settings but couldn’t find a clear option to turn off auto-start. Is there any other setting inside the browser or maybe in the system registry that needs to be changed?

If anyone has faced the same issue and managed to fix it, I’d really appreciate some guidance. Thanks in advance! 🙏

@SarahJacob Go to Settings and type "run" in the search box. There will only be 1 match, though Opera shows the full section - you'll see the text highlighted in the bottom line. It's obvious from there.

The "Run Opera when my computer starts" setting at the URL opera://settings/onStartup should add/remove an opera.exe entry on the "Startup" tab in the Windows task manager by adding/removing the entry at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" in the Windows registry.

However, Opera also has a browser assistant that's set to run on startup that sometimes puts an Opera icon in the systray. There's no setting for that in Opera, but the assistant entry should show up on the "Startup" tab in the Windows Task Manager and in that registry key. So, make sure you disable the assistant startup entry too.

Try these steps to stop Opera from auto-starting:

Check Task Scheduler – Open Task Scheduler (Win + R, type taskschd.msc), look for any Opera-related tasks, and disable them.

Check Registry – Open Registry Editor (Win + R, type regedit), navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, and delete any Opera entry.

Check Opera Settings – In Opera, go to Settings > On startup and make sure it’s not set to reopen previous sessions.

Reinstall Opera – If nothing works, uninstall Opera completely and reinstall it without enabling auto-start options.
