New windows being opened randomly

yoober69 last edited by leocgSo basically i was just playing CS2 (Counter-Strike 2) and when i tabbed out to put on a song, i saw that Opera had opened a new window, i don't know exactly when it opened the window. I'm on the latest Opera version, latest Windows version, i don't really mind the tabs being opened but it's just weird to me. I had some malware on my pc but i luckily deleted it in time, games stopped lagging, storage on my pc stopped getting decreased etc... but only this has been happening, once again, it's not annoying me or anything but it's just so weird. I scan my pc every time i go to bed and it dosen't detect any malware. It can't be from CS2 since i use the buttons on the left side of the mouse to crouch and talk but i don't use CTRL to crouch, only SHIFT to walk slowly.

@yoober69 You said new window, not tab. Usually a new window would mean some external program sent a URL to rhe browser, such as you clicking on a link in that program. Or if you have some sort of adware in your system. Generally anti-malware tools ignore adware, so it could be something left over from your previous infection. What was the site in the window like (generally if you don't remember specifics)?
There have also been a few cases of extensions opening ads, though I don't know if those involved new windows ...

@yoober69 That is sounding like the Notifications thread ... you didn't see any notifications you clicked on?
Could still be adware, but Opera isn't catching the URL. If you intentionally click on a URL in an external program, does the right page open or just a blank window? Many programs will have a link in their About dialog, if you don't have something else to try with.

@sgunhouse I maybe know whats making the new window open, i just turned on my pc since i was gone for a bit (at my grandparents house) and so i open Opera before it like automatically opens a new window, i open a window (first one since i turned on my pc) and then it automatically opens a new window. So i'm just thinking its the startup thing. I'll try disabling it. I'll update you on if it works or not.
