I am a luddite and have no computer skills. All I want to do is copy / move my opera bookmarks off my old computer and onto my new computer (still within opera). You would think this would be a very common requirement with a clear easy to follow path for idiots like me provided by opera (perhaps a tutorial that assumes stupidity and shows in a few clicks how this can be done). But no I cannot find anything to help me apart from things that launch into a confusing array of contradictory information and ideas.
I have tried.. For example on my old computer went to Opera> Settings> Import and Export> Export Bookmarks as HTML gave a File Name (Called it for the sake of argument 'Fred'). At this point only had as 'Save as Type' the option of 'Firefox bookmark files (*,htm, html, places, sqlite). When pressed Save get 'You can't save here. Please choose another location'. So what does this mean? What should I be doing?
Also tried Opera> Settings> Import and Export> Export Bookmarks gave a File Name (Called it for the sake of argument 'Fredia'). At this point only had as 'Save as Type' the option of 'Opera bookmark files (
,adr). When pressed Save get 'You can't save here. Please choose another location'. So what does this mean? What should I be doing?

      Cheers

Not sure what version of Opera you are using, but why not copy the bookmarks file from the profile of Opera in the old computer (Look for "About Opera" in the menu to find the location of the Profile) to a flash drive, and then install that flash drive into the new computer, and copy the bookmarks file into the profile of Opera in the new computer (again you can find the profile's location by looking for "About Opera" in the menu to find the location of the profile in the new computer. A luddite? lol. Can you (and your statement that you have "no computer skills" worries me here) find the location of file on your computer (by seeing the path in About Opera), and copy into it. If you can, then you can easily accomplish the transfer of the bookmarks the way I've suggested.

You cannot though copy a bookmarks.adr file from the profile of Opera 12 into the profile of Opera 22. But no need discussing that right now, as that's probably not what you're trying to do. If you are, post again, and we can help you, but it would be more complicated.

The thing to do at the moment is decide how you are going to transfer the file. New computers don't have floppies, so you'll need to get one of those USB "key" drives or else transfer it over your home network - or email it to yourself or other "cloud" storage. If you are using a USB key, save it directly to the USB key (in the Save dialog, browse to the USB drive - go to My Computer, it will have a hame followed by something like "(E:)"). Open that location then type the name to save it as. If you're going to do it over a network or upload it (to your email or cloud storage), you probably want to save it in My Documents.

The error says that where you were trying to save the file is not a place you are allowed to save - a system folder somewhere. If you want to export (as HTML or as Opera 12 bookmarks) you need to select a different folder.

A key drive is also called a flash drive or thumb drive. Do you have one? Let us know if you need more help.
