In every other browser I own, I have an extension that will translate whole webpages (in firefox, for instance, it's called page translate, and in Chrome it is actually a, integral part of the browser.) I cannot find a similar extension for Opera, and highlighting little bits of text and getting the translation with no paragraphing etc, and in a small pop up window really isn't satisfactory. Can anyone help ?

@fuzzbucket As said, you can use Chrome extensions in Opera. So you can just go to Chrome Store and install the same extension.

Except I can't E it when I go to the Chrome store in Opera.... Chrome has such a feature as part of its browser, so no extension is needed. The extension I have is in firefox and others and I can't find it in any store that will add it to Opera. All the ones in the Chrome store are "select text" only.

          Look: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/page translate?hl

@fuzzbucket You can add Google Translate or something similar as a search engine and use it to translate pages.

@leocg Wht - whole pages just like that - so that you don't have to select text and look at a little box ? What I want is something that takes this, say:
              alt text
and have it end up lookinglike this on the page:
              alt text
How do I do that with a page in some other language that I have opened on Opera ?

@fuzzbucket Go to opera://settings/searchEngines, click on add. Put Google Translator in the first field, gt on the second (you can change those later) and https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=%s&client=webapp as the URL.

The use gt before the page address in address bar and it should be translated to English.

@leocg OK if I have to go to those lengths. It would be so much easier just to be able to click a button on the toolbar of a foreign page and have it switch. Done; I’ll try using it for a bit. Thanks.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-translate/aapbdbdomjkkjkaonfhkkikfgjllcleb is the official Google Translate extension. You can click its extension icon (that you pin to the extension bar) and choose to translate the whole page.

@burnout426 Thank You ! That was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Never tried to do this before, but if there's a button when I post, I will mark this as the solution !

I have tried the translator extension for Opera and it is absolutely useless. I tried the last suggestion below and it was refused by Opera because of "bad content".

                        Any other bright ideas?

                        Thanks

@sbforbes54 Are you on Opera GX? If so, update to LVL5 (core: 104.0.4944.60)

@leocg For the record I'm on 95.0.4635.90, and the suggestion from @burnout426 works great. As I'm on Windows 7 (and no I am not going to upgrade, and yes I have plenty of security) I suspect it won't upgrade any further, though it says it's up to date - but still - that suggestion really works.

@fuzzbucket I, too, am using W-7 Pro. I have no intention of going to anything further.

As for which version of Opera I am running, I have no idea. It seems to be up to date.

@leocg I have no idea how to determine which version I am running. It seems to be up to date. I'm using WindSucks 7 Pro, FWIW.

@sbforbes54 Have you looked at the link from @burnout426 - which really solved it for me.
As to which version - click the Opera icon top left > go to help > about opera.

@sbforbes54 Check Menu > Help > About Opera or go to opera://about.

Last version with support for Windows 7 was 95.

@sbforbes54 There was an issue preventing Chrome extensions to be installed in Opera GX and the version I mentioned have the fix for it. However, you need at least Windows 10 to be able to install it.

@leocg Well, that clears things up a bit. No way in Hell I will ever load WindSucks 10 on my machine! It's old enough that it won't even load. LOL As long as my W-7 Pro works I'm happy. I can just use Firefox or just open a window for a Google Translate and work from there if necessary. Actually, it's helping me to improve my Japanese and Thai skills so at most it is an inconvenience.

                                        Thanks for the info.

@leocg Well, I have no idea what version of Opera I am using but, it's playing well with my MickeySuck 7 Pro laptop. It's just the translator that is bogus. I can work around that.
