@darthgtb I have the speed dial, it's on the left in the new Opera version. My issue is now when you press the button it opens in a new tab. The old Opera would open it in the current tab.

@jjis2006 that's the new tab button isn't it? the + button beside the tabs. It's enough for most uses, but I wish we could have the other button back because then we could send current tab to speed dial instead of having to close the current tab

@leocg You must be kidding? Why should I have to type a url to get to my HOMEPAGE?? esp., when I could previously do it with one mouse click on a convenient button?

@darthgtb Yes!!! So obvious. Whoever heard of a browser without a "Home" button?! I sure hope the Opera "wizzzerds" are reading these complaints.
It feels like Opera has gotten infected by the MS Windows corp/builders bug: "Let's come up with a new version that includes lots of things nobody asked for and arbitrarily take away some really useful features for no reason." 😕

I added the url to the bookmarks bar and positioned it directly under where the speed dial button used to be. It works pretty good that way. I never considered the speed dial button a homepage button. If your home page is anything other than the speed dial tiles than it's not a homepage button.

I added "ALT+Y" as a shortcut for "Speed dial" in the opera settings. This also opens the speed dial in the current window and not in a new one.

@as1973 Okay! That worked. (And is the most useful/convenient suggestion so far.) Thank you. I had to scroll through the ridiculously-detailed Setup menus a couple times to find out how to customize shortcuts, but finally found it. Funny how the shortcut works (for changing the current tab back to Speed Dial), but clicking on the icon directly opens a new tab!

@ppclarke Thanks for offering a suggestion. Yes, Speed Dial is my homepage. (I don't see any way in Opera, unlike most other browsers, for selecting your own homepage. But I like the "3D" character of Speed Dial, with its large icons, as a handy dashboard display for my most-used bookmarks.) Plus, I don't use the bookmarks toolbar: it's just one more bar taking up space at the top of the page and easily accessible from the sidebar menu.

My browser had ALT + home for speed dial. That will work for me.

@ppclarke - I have changed it to easily get it with two fingers/one hand. I am a german user so it may be ALT+Z for US/GB keyboards.

That's quite handy and can probably get used to hit that key combination when I want to go back to my homepage re-using the existing tab. I still miss the good ol' home button Opera devs so rudely removed though.

@leocg what a marvelous solution! So practical!

The big question, despite all the practical solutions, of course is: why?
Why create a home page option with speed dial but no quick way to get there. And why was it in previous versions available and is it in this latest version 'erased'.

@remmie63 Sorry! I was just joking! I can not understand how the people of Opera had mak such mess! It´s almost impossible to use. I am considering change the browser, and I use Opera since its first version.
