Wow i can't believe this is back again, what a terrible feature. Opera, can we the users please vote on what becomes 'permanent'? I'd like to not migrate to another browser just because of you all are getting 'creative' again

There is an option to switch to Opera GX - there is no such problem. Maybe it's for now: Version —LVL 3 (core: 83.0.4254.70)

I have just tried to install a previous version of Opera rather than the atrocious V84 and find that the install box has an update box and it is impossible to install the old version I have just downloaded without updating first. Is it possible to somehow bypass the udate.

@leocg What do you mean 'at the moment'?! The option to disable the 'feature' was already available by disabling it in flags, this option has now been removed.

@echo-the-husky Flags are for developers to enable or disable the features they are working on, for development and test. Flags aren't settings for users to enable or disable something, although they can do it.
Once the feature is enabled by default in stable channel, its flag is no longer necessary and is removed.

- Download the final version of Opera 83 from https://download3.operacdn.com/pub/opera/desktop/83.0.4254.62/win/ to your Downloads folder.
If you have 64-bit Windows, download the x64 one.
-
Goto the URL
opera://about
, and take note of the "install" and "profile" paths. -
Close Opera.
-
Copy your profile folder to a safe place just in case there's something that Opera 84 did with your profile that's not compatible with Opera 83 where running the profile with the older version corrupts your profile. Unlikely to be a problem in this case, but you never know.
-
Uninstall Opera but don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling.
-
Delete the Opera install folder if it still exists.
-
Launch a command prompt and run:
"%userprofile%\Downloads\Opera_83.0.4254.62_Setup_x64.exe" --launchopera=0
for example to launch the Opera installer and tell the installer not to launch Opera after it's installed.
-
When the installer starts, click "options" and review all the options carefully to make sure they're how you want them. Then, click "install".
-
Now that Opera is installed, go into the "83.0.4254.62" folder in Opera's install folder and rename "opera_autoupdate.exe" to "opera_autoupdate.off".
If you have trouble renaming the file because Windows say it's in use, open up Task Manager in Windows and end task on any Opera autoupdate processes you see on the "Processes" tab.
- For good measure, open Task Scheduler in Windows, select "Task Scheduler Library", scroll down till you see "Opera Scheduled Autoupdate", right-click it, and choose "disable".
If you have more than one "Opera Scheduled Autoupdate" task, you can look at each task's "Actions" tab to see what Opera it's for so you disable the right one.
Then, you're good to go to use Opera 83 till Opera 84 has the option you want. When that's the case, while Opera is closed, enable the Autoupdate task again, rename "opera_autoupdate.off" back to "opera_autoupdate.exe", start Opera, wait 20 to 30 seconds, goto the URL
opera://about
, and let Opera update to the latest build of 84. -

@burnout426 I'll try installing the old if it will let me because this "feature" is a deal breaker for me too.

I can't believe there is no way to disable this annoyance now apart from downgrading.
I used the following link to suggest an improvement:
https://opera.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/9In Opera Settings, on the left, there is a "Rate Opera" link which I used to tell whoever receives it how pathetic this "feature" is. Best thing is it can be used multiple times.
Maybe if they get a few hundred negative comments, they'll start considering adding two lines in their code so we can Disable this Unwanted crap.
But then again, there is no limit to devs arrogance.
Remember devs, having a tabbed browser is useful for having Multiple tabs. That means that having 10+ tabs opened is not a rarity. Your tabs tooltip is Not a good thing in that case. Find another way to implement it or let us disable it.

I just made this account after using Opera for the past decade. It was the only browser I've used but this "feature" that Chromium based browsers implemented and blocked the ability to disable is the worst thing that happened. I just can't get my head around why? Why in the name of all saints every single chromium based browser implemented this feature and disable the option to get rid of it? From Opera to Chrome and even Edge. I just cant understand and it bothers me that neither Opera devs or other browsers devs wont bother with fixing this worst feature in the history of browsers. In all cases the forum admins responds that the option is gone but wont say why or if they will get that option back. I've switched to Firefox for now. This is the only one that it doesn't have that horror feature. If Opera will decide to eliminate or at least implement that option to remove it then I'll switch back. I've seen hundreds of posts and people complaining about this issue on other forums too but still no fix.

@daniellb said in How to disable tabs list popup?:
@leocg If you install the beta version of Opera you can find that option on settings menu but if you disable it nothing happens. The popup window is still there. I've just tried it with Opera beta version 85.0.4341.13.
This setting does work in dev version 87.0.4366.0 - you likely have to wait a little more then.
Or you mean disabling entire popup? This not possible Here this setting disables just tabs list part of it; current tab description keeps popping up always. -

@donq I was talking about the entire popup. In the last versions it was possible to disable them from flags now you cant find the hover board tabs option. Its a shame that I have to give up on this browser but I have to. I've checked on dev version that you mentioned and yeah you're right you cant disable that popup. Given the fact that the dev version is like 3 versions ahead of stable opera its safe to say it will be a long time until maybe one dev will listen to these kind of complains. I'll check in a few months time. Until then I'll have to get used to Firefox.

In this latest stable version (85.0.4341.18) it can already be disabled. Which is located in Settings / Advanced / User Interface / "Show tabs from the same domain in tab tooltip".
