@flandres64 You need to change the installation path first. Also, as said, you need to run the installer as admin.

Hello. I've been using Opera for several years now. Neither windows 7 nor opera were reinstalled. Opera was installed by the default browser. After the automatic update to version 82.0.4227.23 64-bit, opera ceased to be the default browser. There is no way to fix it. I tried both through IE and through Chrome, they are set by default browsers, Opera cannot take away their rights. It is started from the administrator. There is no Opera in the list of programs by default in Windows.

Download the Opera installer, close Opera, uninstall Opera (don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling), launch the Opera installer, click "options", set "install path" to "C:\Program Files\Opera", set "install for" to "all users", check "make Opera the default browser" if you want, adjust the other settings if you want, and install.

Then, things should be good to go as far as Opera properly being the default browser and showing up in Default Programs in Windows. This should also fix the default browser infobar problem in Opera unless your profile is messed up and or Opera is having trouble saving to the Preferences in your profile folder.

            Long Story

I click on Make default button under Default Browser in Settings, however, the question is still asked every time I launch the browser.
Is it something to do with Windows setting?
Additionally, when I click that button, no confirmation message shows up, to say that the new setting was saved. Is this normal action by the browser?

Download the Opera installer, close Opera, uninstall Opera (don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling), launch the Opera instaler, click "options", set "install path" to "C:\Program Files\Opera" (or "C:\Program Files\Opera GX" if you're installing Opera GX), set "install for" to "all users", uncheck "import data from default browser", check "Make Opera your default browser" if you want, adjust other options if you want, and install.

That should do the trick. if not, additionally, go into Default Programs/Apps in Windows and set Opera's defaults.

@eblecher There's currently a bug it seems with the default browser check that causes the infobar to keep showing up. You can try waiting till it gets fixed or just switch to an all users install like mentioned above. An all users install is what other browsers use anyway.

In O82.0.4227.23, the default browser issue disappeared after a few days on its own; now with the new O82.0.4227.33, it re-appears its ugly head. This should not be a problem that necessitates any kind of reinstall...etc. This has been reported since 23 came out, and now the new updates starts it again.. heh!

Windows 7, "Set Default Programs" Opera is not listed.

Under "Associate a File Type or Protocol", all the listed extensions and Protocols DO have Opera listed as associated correctly
