Opera Freezing - I'm done

blackbird71 last edited byAt times, I use 5 different browser "flavors", and it's been years since I experienced a "crash" (back on the Win98 or WinXP systems, as I recall). In at least the last 3 years, zero crashes. Browser design has come a long way for all the brands, assuming the system on which the browser is running is not being overly challenged (either by hardware limitations or other installed software). In other forums, the folks I've encountered with chronic browser crashing problems usually are having conflicts with anti-malware programs, improperly-installed or adjusted software (permissions issues, settings, file corruption, proxies, etc), other software that is peculiarly structured or demanding (IM, software, graphics drivers, Flash, multi-media, etc), or some peculiar website's scripting idiosyncrasies.

Pesala, here are my specs:
1 - Windows 7 Home Prem
2 - Opera ver 19.0.1326.21
3 - MSI 990FXA-GD80 mb, AMD Phenom II X4 970, GSkill DDR3 1333 ram, OCZ-Vertex3 SSD drive
4 - Extensions: NONE installed
5 - Sites where Opera freezes: Everywhere: Gizmodo, Amazon, Facebook, Engadget, FoxNews (I could try keeping better track)
6 - Avast antivirus (have uninstalled and reinstalled however I don't use their web guard anyways)Anything else?

I had exactly the same problem. Completely hung my computer. Very, very aggravating. I was forced to Firefox due to that.
I'm using Win 7 64 bit and was using Java 33 & 64 runtime and also had the Chrome browser installed. I didn't know what was hanging my computer when using Opera Blink. It also happened when using Chrome. Removing components such as the Chrome browser and Java runtime and my extensions fixed it. I then put back Chrome, Java 32 bit and my extensions. That seems to indicate the problem was Java 64 runtime. Or maybe it was just a weird combination of programs that got in each other way.
Whatever. For me its now fixed.

Since I got to not ever keep any two players open simultaneously - even in stan-by, to make myself sure,
Especially those various Flashy things could burden the system.
Sometimes - no, often - it itches to keep listening to the radio and to get playing some game at once - :(. -

stevenjcee last edited byI had no freezing or crashing issues with Opera for the last few weeks, but then after the most recent update, 18.0.1284.68, it's now freezing and crashing, sometimes in less than half an hour after opening. I was going days at a time, with it open, with many windows & tabs open, and it was fine, now, it's not as bad as FF or Chrome, or Safari, but it's barely ahead of the pack. Wonder why that's happening? I've not added any software or extensions since upgrading, <scratching my head>.... I'm on a Mac, with 12 gigs of RAM...

There has to be something amiss with your system, Steven, if you're experiencing crashing/freezing from all of these browsers and when you say that "it's not as bad as FF or Chrome, or Safari, but it's barely ahead of the pack" that indicates that all of these browsers are having issues. I have no issues with the latest versions of FF, Chrome, IE and Opera (I'm on Windows 8.1 and a rather old Dell desktop). Are you certain that your computer is clean? Have you run Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro to make certain there is no malware infestation? I know you have a Macbook but that doesn't mean you're invincible from malware. Obviously something is wrong and it doesn't appear to be the browser since they're all experiencing problems.

It's not a beta issue because Opera does it as well. As noted in my first post it's all Chromium based browsers. When you asked for the version number I could have given you the Opera version as well because both versions freeze the entire system.

I just spend a few minutes browsing Gizmodo in Opera 18, opening several articles, watching a video, then mouse gesture to go back, etc. I saw no problems at all, so we need a clear step by step recipe.

Leushino, why ask me if I've run programs that are only for PCs, when you know I have a Mac? I do have anti-virus software, and I'm free of it, but I've had issues with browsers nonetheless. I've reset them, did reinstalls of my operating system, even bought a new computer, and so far, no browser seems to work for a long time without getting RAM heavy, & slowing down... I do usually have a lot of windows/tabs open (30-60), but use a flash-blocking extension, so they only open when I click on them... And I don't have a ton of extensions loaded on any of my browsers... So, I don't know why I have this experience, and thus far, no Apple tech, even the higher up ones, have been able to figure out why, either....
It's probably some conflict of some sort, that I'm just not savvy enough to figure out, deal with, or prevent...

A key question is whether the freezing and crashing with the various browsers are truly similar or are different in nature. Usually, if multiple apps show the same kinds of failure symptoms (regardless of differing frequency), there is a common contributor on the system - either hardware or software. Most often the candidates for cause are malware/adware infections, anti-malware program interference, blocking tools (hosts blocking, anti-Flash, anti-ads, etc), system files/settings conflicts, apps/system conflicts (IM, VPN, proxies, DNS, etc), or hardware issues (erratic RAM, etc). Some of these potential causes may not show up as problems in a particular software, but do in others or after an update to the formerly-"working" software.
