It was on the right of the chat above "Customize Chat" Then after an update it was gone, This on both Win 10 PCs!

I have just noticed that Ctrl/Return no longer starts a new line in the chat no more as well !

Yes, it is working with me fine.
I don’t know why you are facing such an issue.
Disable extensions and clear cache, then check it again -

@stapleruk I do have the same problem with you (i use google chrome).
Solution (kinda): it is still possible to search for chat history using the messenger app on windows store. I know you dont want to install that app. Me neither but i havent figured out another way yet -

Im using FB messenger in Opera browser sidebar and Search in Conversation still not there even after another update, This morning i had a popup message claiming other features will soon be going too, due to some new EU law and "not to worry we will try to get them back", Losing the search in conversation is a real pain as i used it alot.
Another problem i have, With the right hand option sidebar open in FB messenger if i send a photo to someone it chops the chat window in half [I can only see down the right hand side of the chat], the other half looks like it is hidden [stretching the chat window out makes no difference], I have to click the I to remove the left sidebar options off to be able to see all the chat.

I can tell you now that this has Zero to do with EU policies because a simple tweak can remove it just for those users and keep it in for others. If it had to do with EU policies then it would have been removed from the app, they just want users to download the app because it gives them more ability to send 'personalized' advertising.
As to the carriage return, they moved it to Shift+Enter in messenger, which is rather dumb considering its still Ctrl+Enter in the posting side.

Yet another problem.
If i type a msg to someone and send it, then click on another friend then go back to the other friend, the msg i typed is still in the bottom as if i havnt sent it [i have], trying to delete it and it just reappears, This is annoying because if i want to start a new msg to the same person i have to delete each character one at a time [holding backspace] then type a new msg, I cant highlight the whole msg and delete as it just reappears.
Only way i can get rid of it is by deleting each character one at a time [backspace] Then closing Opera all together and reopening.
So thats search in conversation gone, CTRL+ENTER to start a new line in msg gone, Msg area chopped in half with right hand side bar open, And now previous sent msgs reappearing in the text field

Well, Search in conversation is still not returned, Why was it removed in the first place ?

@stapleruk Do you see it when Messenger is opened in a regular tab? What about in other browsers?
