WindowsCodecs.dll can be copied over to Windows XP and the browser will function. I have not seen the DLL on any clean XP system, and it is likely from a later update.
DLL files that are needed to run Opera 15 under WinXP SP1, 32-bit:
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88902520/misc/kernel31.dll (how to use)
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88902520/misc/iphlpapi.dll
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88902520/misc/WindowsCodecs.dllDLL files needed to run Opera 15 under WinXP SP2:
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88902520/misc/iphlpapi.dll
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88902520/misc/WindowsCodecs.dllChrome relies too much on the OS. Opera did have its own GStreamer codecs, while Chrome does neither manage proxies, nor certificates, nor apparently codecs entirely by itself.

thankx j7n,
when adding the two files to the application directory opera starts now.
I don't understand your statement about chrome relying too much on OS, chrome is working fine without these files...

SP3 should already have the IPHLPAPI.DLL, which is where I took it from.
I meant the new Opera build which is based upon a recent version of Chromium. Opera was more portable, and didn't rely on as many files present on the system.

The problem with Opera is that it was really to slow. I hoped they make it as fast as Chrome but not to change the engine.
Wait & See. Time will tell us if it is a good idea, if not I will use Firefox with all the add-ons, could be as good as Opera 12.15 (and even a bit of 9.5)

Why is anyone still running XP SP1/SP2 ?!
Because we fit the following criteria
Too lazy to find newer torrent of XP
Cannot apply money to buying XP by moral or cash limitations
Afraid of the service packs breaking our torrent. -

Afraid of the service packs breaking our torrent. The Windows XP SP3 update installer can be downloaded for free from Microsoft website or Windows Update. It will update your XP install and won't break anything...

Unless you're using one of those "light" versions of Windows (there are utilities to remove features from Windows, but doing so makes it impossible to install service packs), or of course if your system doesn't look "genuine" to MS (which can happen for legitimate reasons, not only because your system is bootleg). If you're in either of those categories, you're stuck.
