White screen 'flashbang' when opening pages
-

Hi guys,
Ive searched for this, but while I have everything in dark mode, and including windows night light, getting this 'flashbang' is quite difficult to take.
Ive turned off all extensions, its been happening for some time now. Are there any fixes? -

Are you talking about a fully white screen for an instant before loading a page? I don't recall experiencing that (I also use Opera with a dark theme).
Can you provide exact steps to reproduce it? Is this on Windows 10?
You can try downloading Opera portable to make sure it's not something related to your profile. -

Hi mate, thanks for the reply and yes, thats exactly what I am talking about.
I understand if its needed? but if I cant change the colour id be very happy.
You can imagine everything dark and at 4:30am, this is hard to take.
Any fixes? -

But at what point does it happen exactly? When opening a new tab with the speed dial? After clicking on a speed dial icon? After clicking on any page link? Let me suggest again to provide exact steps to reproduce it, and to try a portable instance to better narrow down the possible cause.

@alobpreis Check if you have flashbangs while switching Opera's internal pages, in dark mode.

Hi,
Well anytime I click on a speed dial page, or a hyperlink on any other.
This 'sometimes' happens with internal links. Here is a video of the issue.

@Pebbles1980 On video it looks like 'yellowish' flashbang first and then pure white(like 'fade in' effect). Is this just an effect from recording? If it's solid pure white, then I have the same behavior.

Weird. I was only able to reproduce something similar by enabling the sidebar menu (as per @andrew84's comment) and clicking alternatively on Speed Dial and Extensions. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to happen. I have dark background pages in my Speed Dial, which also has a dark background, but no flashing happens.

@andrew84
Its probably cause I have the win10 nightlight settings on, which makes this issue even worse.
Ive had the sidebar disabled forever as there is nothing on there I find usefull, so its nothing to do with that. There must be a way to turn this to black if its indeed necessary

The white might be the about:blank page showing before the initial display of the requested page (or just the page itself where it hasn't received styling info yet). If so, you can try to find a solution for Chrome to style the background color of about:blank and it might work in Opera too. Don't know if there's a solution though. More likely, you'd need to find a way to edit the default styles for a page and set its background-color to black for example. You might be able to do that for all pages with an extension.
There's an old post at https://superuser.com/questions/580228/prevent-white-screen-before-loading-page-in-chromium with some workarounds that no longer work, and a reference to a bug. There might be a solution that still works somewhere in there.

@burnout426 there's also a similar bug in Chrome bug store.
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=853986
If I don't mistake, there's a issue with white 'flashbangs' on all the Chromium browsers. And each browser has some own workarounds.
Previously there were white flashbangs when creating new tabs or switching background tabs (that's why Opera implemented 'shared startpage' flag for the 'new tab', I guess). The bug was closed/fixed/reopened/merged many times with other similar bugs. I don't what happens there on chromium engine, but comparing to FireFox for example, in FireFox it works smooth and without any flashbangs (white or colorful) when creating new tabs or switching background tabs. -

Thanks guys, ill have a look through. My initial thought was it was the about:blank page too, but couldnt verify.

You should NOT spam the forum with your message. This topic is about something completely different.
You already created this topic:
https://forums.opera.com/topic/40606/very-weak-video-online-and-very-slowly-speed-loading
And apparently also used another user named NaderKabir1, which created this other topic with almost the exact same text, as well as replying other posts:

You didn't reply to my message in that topic though. -

Well ive gone through the chrome and firefox work arounds, and nothing seems to remove it.
Its getting even more anoyying now cause im expecting it.
Seems the only work around Ive found is to click, then look away....... not ideal.... -

@Pebbles1980 You can check my posts in the blog too, I don't know whether they going to fix it or optimize. In the first link you also can find a link to the Opera 65 announcement where in 'after' demo video they demonstrate how do SD tiles open now. If I don't mistake, it worked like on this demo recently (not ideally, but worked ), now there is a flashbang prior to the opening bookmark all the time.

@Pebbles1980 It was fixed in in 65 version as it seems, I don't remember when it was spoiled again.
