Chinese investments in Opera

@lavanyadeepak-0 As a simple research would have shown you, Opera is owned by a Chinese group.

I believe it's nothing to worry about. opera has a good share of users in africa, and chinese are also investing in africa, so it makes sense for them to invest in opera. it's just capitalism and nothing more. opera didn't turn into google or facebook just in one day. at least for now...

@urdrwho10 Just because Opera is owned by a Chinese group? Well, you are about four years late.

people are concerning about chinese ownership and saying that china has a bad record with human rights. same people are giving all their info to google and/or facebook voluntarily and become their product and this is better than what they think about china? neither is good and I believe some of this concerns can be acceptable. what opera should do with this is that they should be more transparent about all this, not complete silence. people are thinking that some things are not right. this is just bad management of a corporate image. they should do better.

@leocg That is true. But now that I've found out, I made a decision.
Opera was on my computers but for a long time FF ESR & Vivaldi have been my main browsers. Hm? Who owns Vivaldi? In my area the purchase was not very widely known and I asked some other people. Nobody knew about the purchase.
Probably the one that snoops the least is FF and I'm not so sure about them either. Just not a fan of Chinese sending children's toys painted with lead paint, the drywall fiasco from years ago, so I am not very trusting. Then enter this pandemic from bats sold at a wet market. I looked at the wet market and live cats / dogs is disgusting. So I'll just do my part and not support such animal abuse.

I'm trying to logically connect your dots: uncertainty about which if any web-browser snoops less, a Norwegian browser subject to Norwegian privacy laws (but happening to be owned by Chinese investors), lead-painted toys exported by some factories in China, drywall contamination years ago involving other factories in China, and a pandemic virus allegedly emanating from bats sold in a wet meat market in the hinterlands of China... all folded into a composite rationale for abandoning the Norwegian web browser after installing and using it for however long on multiple computers. Hmm... I guess your logic simply escapes me.

Here I'll make it easy for you.
I don't like Chinese politics.
I don't like how China has minimal pollution control
If you can't see how most other countries banned lead paint on toys but China allowed it - well the shame is on you
You ever watch what the wet markets do to cats & dogs? Animals that most humane countries don't eat.
I trust the Norwegians but I don't want to give Chinese investors one dimeIf you are ok helping Chinese investors make money for a country that lacks freedom of expression, of religious freedoms, of sexual orientation, gender identity freedoms and there are more.
Major Chinese technology companies, including Huawei, iFlytek, and ZTE, all of which enjoy close relations with the government and contribute to the police’s mass surveillance efforts, tried to expand abroad in 2018. So therefore I won't be buying phones from certain companies.
So if you're cool with all their actions - fine --- make more money for the Chinese investors to take back to China. There are other browsers out there that don't have the same investors.

Not sure. Maybe in the first post I felt like writing in some odd verbose manner just to wax poetically?
I do hate giving up on Opera. I was talking to another computer blog guy and he suggested looking into the investors. Perhaps they are investors who I share a kindred spirit with for human rights, etc. If so - I could keep Opera. Hm?
