When I type a url that ends in "-8.pdf" it appears that something like a spell checker changes it, in certain instances, to "-8-pdf" which ends up with a 404 can't find.

I have confirmed that spell checking is off (although I don't expect spell checking to impact the address bar as I think it is supposed to be effective only for text boxes within a web page).

If I right-click a link that ends in "-8.pdf" and select "Open link in new tab" the same thing happens.

If I right-click a link that ends in "-8.pdf" and select "Open link in new window" the same thing happens.

If I right-click a link that ends in "-8.pdf" and select "Open link in private window" it does not change the url and the private window finds the file and opens it!

So, I have a workaround, but it worries me that there is something going on I don't understand.

      I have absolutely no add-ons.

It doesn't appear to happen with any other urls. A link that ends with "-{x}.pdf" where {x} is replaced with any other character than 8 will happily find and open the file as a pdf in the browser.

If somebody could suggest where I can start looking for the source of this it would be appreciated.

      Thanks

Both opened fine here without any changes to the url.

If I right-click a link that ends in "-8.pdf" and select "Open link in private window" it does not change the url and the private window finds the file and opens it!

It usually means that an extension is the one to blame but since you say that you don't have any...

Is an extension different than an add-on?

Best way to check is to start private browsing mode (control-shift-n) and then trying to access the URL again. If it works then it's definitely something in your browser settings (most likely a plugin of some sorts).

I already did that and reported the results (It works).

I also think it is somewhere in my browser settings.

I just have no idea where to look.

I just have no idea where to look.

I would try a new profile folder. If the issue didn't happen then I would check after each change I had made in settings to see which one is the one to blame.

                            It's a fresh Opera install?

Did u made any change in Flags?

There is an option to use external PDF viewer, maybe it's checked snd the PDF reader it's not right configured.

                              Just an idea:

                              • Open a new tab
                              • Press Ctrl-Shift-I to open the developer toolbar
                              • Select the Network tab
                              • Paste the problematic url and press ENTER
                              • Check if an entry appears in the Network tab (in my case it doesn't but just downloads the file)
                              • If it doesn't, check in the Console tab to see if there's any message (just in case)

Of course, also try with a portable version to make sure there's nothing else affecting your browser. Are you using the latest one?
