High CPU usage when downloading a file

When downloading a file at 2+ MB/sec (from yandex.net) Opera heavily eats CPU on my PC (1 core is utilized 50-80%), which makes the browser and other application hardly usable.
I usually download with Download Master, and it doesn't occupy CPU (at least this is hardly noticable) at same speeds.
Opera: 64.0.3417.92 (32-bit)
OS: Windows 7 64-bit SP1
PC: Lenovo B580 / Intel Core i3-2328M 2.20 GHz / 16 GB RAMIt seems to be a know issue, which presumably is (will be) fixed in 66 version.

The issue you linked to has to do with the audio indicator animation in the tab causing high CPU usage when audio is playing. Downloading a file seems like a totally different issue.

Do you have a link to the file you're downloading? Or, is it an attachment in your email? I'm not seeing high cpu usage when downloading http://releases.ubuntu.com/19.10/ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso for example in Opera 65.0.3467.48 64-bit on Windows 10.

@burnout426 . thanks for trying to reproduce the issue.
Yes, it happens always on my PC with this file - https://yadi.sk/d/93TjorEtVX3eu (I've tried to re-download it).
When the Downloads window is opened the CPU usage increases a lot, whithout the window it is about 20% which is too high for an ordinary download. -

Okay. I'll test with that later when I'm on a faster connection.
Opera: 64.0.3417.92 (32-bit)
I'll also test with 32-bit Opera and Opera v64 instead of just 65+ and 64-bit Opera. If it's in Opera v64 though, it might already be fixed for you in 65.
(Are you purposely using the 32-bit version of Opera?)

Yep, it still happens on latest Opera. OK, I'm on a portable one but the official one from Opera's site. Here a screenshot:

I tested again with Opera 67.0.3575.97 64-bit. Still can't reproduce the issue. I'm on Windows 10 OS Version 1909 (Build 18363.657). CPU issue is around 4 or 5% when downloading http://releases.ubuntu.com/19.10/ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso.

Ya, on Win 10 it doesn't happen indeed. But on several W7 machines with latest Opera it happens consistently.

What is common for those W7 machines? Some third-party software (antivirus, security suite, VPN, network monitor etc), interfering with network traffic or disk writing?

All using the same Opera portable from the same drive? Can you reproduce the problem with Opera on the main system drive?

You are using a remote resource which is effected by externalizes making benchmark numbers. Hence for testing, I changed to local resource.
