OPening attachments in Opera

I am using opera-stable_45.0.2552.888_amd64.deb on a Linux Debian Jessie system to access my emails from a Microsoft Exchange OWA Light system.

I have a problem with attachments to emails.
When the attachment is a PDF, this can be clicked on and opened. When it's a JPEG, it is just downloaded to the desktop and doesn't open.

Normal. Opera identifies itself as the system PDF viewer, so when you save a PDF file if you double-click on it in the Downloads list it will open in Opera. Other file types are not.

If OWA gave you a link for viewing the file that would be different, but as long as the link gives you only a Save dialog that's what it will do.

Not if the website insists on downloading it. There are links that specify their content is to be downloaded; if you hit one of those Opera will always save the file (and once the file is saved it will be handled according to Windows' setting.) That is, if you set Opera as the default viewer for JPEG files then double-clicking the listing in Downloads would open the file in Opera - but so would double-clicking it in File Manager.

the IE browser is used on a colleague's Windows laptop, so it is not the
OWA system which is insisting on only downloading JPEG files.

On another point, Opera also appears not to allow copying of a weblink using right click.... Nothing happens, when it should copy the weblink so it can be used elsewhere.

I have seen https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/open-with-application/ by michsens and wonder if that could help with
opening JPEG files (this addon may need extending to include JPEG files).

@starting The site is sending the same information to IE and Opera? The fact that it works on IE doesn't mean that it's not a site issue.
How other Chromium based browsers behave? How Firefox behave?

Of course Opera can copy a link. Mind you, the menu reads "Copy link address", but it is right there.

As far as a download link, let's try this. This page is an image of a cat I posted on Flickr some time ago. In the lower right corner of the black area will be a downward-pointing arrow; clicking the arrow will give a list of available sizes to download and also "View all sizes". Just not to get carried away, let's say we click the "Medium (640x360)" link (though it is my photo and you can pick any size). Whether you do that in IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera or whatever other browser, that link is only supposed to download the photo. If it actually opens in IE, then IE is doing it wrong.
