For some reason, every time I start a game on Steam, Opera starts.

      How can I stop this?

That would have to be a setting in Steam, not Opera. Opera is set as the default program for opening URLs, and whatever you're doing is sending an address to Opera. What address is Opera trying to open?

If this is a problem with Steam, why has this never happened with Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer? The only thing I'm doing is starting my games from the Steam desktop client (as is usually done, by clicking the big "Start" button).

Opera does not try to open any address, the only thing it shows is the empty tab with those shortcuts. The same thing shown every time I start the browser normally.

Nevermind, reinstalling Steam has solved the issue.

WTF ?? !! Now all the programs start Opera!

AIMP, Deluge, Photoshop, Camtasia, Fraps, Swiff Player ... I can not start a single program without the Opera tab appearing! Do I have to reinstall them all?

              F ** k this, I'm going back to Firefox.

Did you try uninstalling and then reinstalling Opera?
