I am not happy with the new layout of the settings page

For now, you can disable opera://flags/#new-md-settings to get the old settings page back. The option might get removed eventually though.

I don't know why but in my previous post with the image showing path "C:\Users\Norm's\AppData\Local\Opera" actually does not exist, this path does exist "C:\Users\Norm's\AppData\Local\Opera Software" but no "autoupdate file.
For now I have followed your suggestion to "disable the flag" "opera://flags/#new-md-settings" and will continue using version 55, I am not going to disable the "update/Recovery" page at this time.

      Thank you for your help!

The auto update executable is located in the installation folder, usually c:\program files\Opera, under the last build folder.

OK, found the correct folder,1_1536704028931_Capture6.JPG 0_1536704028889_Capture5.JPG
Renamed files in both folders "OFFopera_autoupdate.exe"

Ah yes. That's the path the Opera installer uses by default when you choose "current user" for "install for" instead of "All users". The latter will install to "C:\Program Files\Opera".

Would it be an option, Opera devs, to add an On/Off autoupdate option, to avoid all this hassle?

@darthagnon I'm sure they could do it. But, people have been complaining about this for forever, so I wouldn't get your hopes up. Maybe Opera will surprise one day.

People using old versions may have a high cost. They will start reporting issues that were already solved long time before because they forgot to update and dealing with those reports are costly; They may lose their data because the current version deals with data in a different way and dealing with it has a cost.
No software house wants people using old versions.

@leocg I have been doing all the updates but it would be nice to have the "old" settings option on/off !

What about putting the switch under "Advanced Settings" or chrome://flags, with red warning text?

Does it get reset on you when you update?

You could add opera_autoupdate.exe to the Windows Explorer DisallowRun list to see if it helps. See https://www.wikihow.com/Block-an-Application-or-.EXE-from-Running-in-Windows.

@burnout426 Until the settings page changed in 55 it wasn't a problem, but yes it reverts to default setting on update. I renamed update file so I will now update manually but having to reset settings page to old style is a pain.
I tried turning off update in "tasks" didn't matter.
