<![CDATA[Auto Update no ON/OFF switch!]]>I have been using Opera for about 2 years now and have been quite happy with it and allowing the browser to "Auto Update" no problems until Version 55 I am not happy with the new layout of the settings page and wanted to roll back to an earlier version.
Well guess what re-installing an earlier version has no provision to turn off auto update. After reinstalling an earlier version it automatically runs auto update and on next launch I am back to version 55!.

Is there anyway to turn this off? I have read all the posts describing rename the "update.exe" file and it doesn't matter, turn off or delete the function in "TASK" this also doesn't stop the update from running!

I like to have control over my software allowing me to decide I feel as a violation!

I renamed update file so I will now update manually but having to reset settings page to old style is a pain.
I tried turning off update in "tasks" didn't matter.

What about putting the switch under "Advanced Settings" or chrome://flags, with red warning text?

Ah yes. That's the path the Opera installer uses by default when you choose "current user" for "install for" instead of "All users". The latter will install to "C:\Program Files\Opera".

For now, you can disable opera://flags/#new-md-settings to get the old settings page back. The option might get removed eventually though.

I don't know why but in my previous post with the image showing path "C:\Users\Norm's\AppData\Local\Opera" actually does not exist, this path does exist "C:\Users\Norm's\AppData\Local\Opera Software" but no "autoupdate file.
For now I have followed your suggestion to "disable the flag" "opera://flags/#new-md-settings" and will continue using version 55, I am not going to disable the "update/Recovery" page at this time.

I have done this multiple times. Even gone back to version 53! After using standalone install for version 54, as soon as you open "ABOUT" Opera starts by downloading the new update and prepares to install version 55 on relaunch!
