What is HLS, and why does't Opera support video streamed, using it?

I get this same notice when trying to play videos on some of the major network sites ABC, CBS, etc. which work fine with other browsers, so why can't Opera play them?

I also wonder why Opera automatically plays videos when I go to YouTube, despite my having "AutoPlay" deselected?

YouTube does its own thing with videos. I have installed an extension to prevent auto-playing: Disable HTML5 Autoplay. It works.

@stevencee That autoplay option on YouTube is for playing the next video, not the current one.

@leocg OK thanks... but what about Opera not being able to play any videos on at least two major network websites, CBS & ABC I think? Also, now anytime I try to stream music of video it plays 30 seconds to a minute and a half, and just stops! Very frustrating, if I click play again, it just starts at the beginning, then stops, won't go any futher.
