After updating to 52.0.2871.64, I've lost all my speed-dial thumbnails. This is how they look like now:

I have re-installed Opera and didn't fix the problem. I've also tried to click F5 inside the thumbnails but they didn't refresh with new thumbnails. I have more than 200 websites in my speed-dial 😕

Did you use Delete private data, or empty your cache?

@sgunhouse no I didn't. Actually, I formatted my Windows 10 HP laptop and after installing Opera, I've lost all my thumbnails. But the thing is, I had done this in the past a few times and I never had problems such that. Any ideas on how to fix that?

What method are you relying upon to get your thumnails back? Did you back up Opera's profile folder before formatting Windows and then restore it in the same spot before installing Opera in the new instance of Windows? Or, are you relying on Opera Sync?

@burnout426 I'm using Opera's Sync feature. Like I said, this happened for the first time in all the years I am using Opera. Funny thing is, with the latest Opera Update the speed-dial thumbnails are loading very slowly and I've used the latest version in other laptops too (same thing, slow loading). Maybe this is a problem with the latest version? I don't know.

Anyhow, my question is this: Is there any way to update all my thumbnails automatically or should I start doing it myself?

Not sure, but you can try a few things.

Goto sync.opera.com and make sure all your stuff is actually there.

When you signed into sync, did you see a warning that you have more data to sync with a different password? If so, sign in with that one too.

You could test things out to see if it's just a glitch. Download the Opera installer, launch it, click "options", set "install path" to a folder on your desktop, set "install for" to "standalone installation", uncheck import bookmarks and install. Then, in that Opera, sign into sync and see what happens.

Also, when you sign into sync, make sure to check all the boxes for what you want to sync.

If it works fine in the standalone installation, in your normal Opera, you might be able to close down Opera, delete the profile folder (see opera:about for the location), start Opera back up and sign into sync again. Before you do this part though, you should double-check with others on here that use sync more often to make sure that deleting the profile folder won't be interpreted as you deleting all your stuff where it removes everything on the server when you sync. I don't think it will in this specific case (only in the case if you were to just delete individual profile files like the speed dial files etc.), but you might want to double-check.

If all else fails though, I assume you have to re-add your speed dials yourself.

@burnout426 okay so I did everything you told me to, and it didn't helped. So I started adding all the thumbnails by myself. Yesterday, I did a clean format of my laptop and installed again the latest version of Windows 10. I installed Opera, synced and the speed-dial and bookmark thumbnails were gone. Everything I did from the begging now is gone. What is going? Why is this happening?

@meymigrou Sorry none of that worked.

I'm not sure. But, if it was me, I'd go to sync.opera.com and delete all my info there. I'd then choose to reset sync on the page (which will also wipe out all the info, but i'd still do both ways). Then, I'd uninstall Opera. Then, I'd delete "C:\Users\yourusername\Appdata\Roaming\Opera Software" and "C:\Users\yourusername\Appdata\Local\Opera Software". I'd also delete "C:\Program Files\Opera" if it remains.

Then, I'd download Opera, launch the installer, click "options", set "install path" to "C:\Program Files\Opera", set "install for" to "All Users", check "make Opera default browser", uncheck "import bookmarks" and install.

That should start you off completely fresh with everything where you're starting from scratch.

I'd then delete any default bookmarks and speed dial entries I didn't want. Then, I'd log into sync, choose what to sync and then just use Opera where you add in your speed dials and bookmarks etc. again (manually).

Then, check sync.opera.com to confirm everything is there.

                    Then, everything should be fine.

All that involves starting from scratch and retyping your usernames and passwords etc. and everything, but that should sort everything out.
