Opera Mail - Gmail - Two Factor Authentication

I want to use Opera Mail with Gmail Two factor authentication. Does it work? If yes, is there a clear followable set of steps that anyone knows of?

First, you have to turn on "Allow less secure apps" at the bottom of https://myaccount.google.com/security to even use Opera Mail with Gmail. You also have to turn on IMAP/POP in settings at mail.google.com.
As for 2-step verification, I never tried it with Opera Mail, but I don't think it works because Opera Mail doesn't support OAuth as a login method to the IMAP/POP and SMTP servers. Without OAuth sign-in, the two-factor part isn't trigger and you won't get a text to confirm the login. I suppose Google could implement something here so that it works, but they haven't as far I as know.
So, I'm almost certain you have to keep 2-factor authentication off to use Gmail with Opera Mail. Opera Mail still connects to the servers securely though with TLS, so it's not really less-secure beside the 2-factor part.
But, you can try leaving 2-factor authentication on for other app and turn on "Allow less secure apps" and maybe Google will ignore the 2-factor part for IMAP/POP and SMTP and let you sign in. If not, try Thunderbird.
Note though that Opera Mail is incomplete and was discontinued years ago.

@mryanmarkryan2 You will probably need to create a special password to be used with Opera Mail. In Gmail page where you enable two factors authentication, you should find how to do it.

The https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords page will be available if you have 2-step turned on (which will turn off less-secure app access). There you can create an app password for "other" named "Opera Mail" and then generate a password for your device/computer you're on. Then, you use that password in Opera Mail instead of your normal one.
I think in this scenario though, you're only doing the 2-step verification once when you generate the password for Opera Mail. I don't think you get a text with a code when you try to log in with Opera Mail where you have to go to some page to then verify before the mail login will succeed. So, it's kind of a workaround that Google provides for apps like Opera Mail. But, in short, that'll let you keep 2-step on while being to able log in with Opera Mail.

I setup a different client but I might still try opera mail to see if its smoother.. a lot of development went into it back in the day yeah?Have you fscked your local propeller head today?
