      Not old enough.
A month or two? Certain topics do need to hang around "on stand-by" with lulls for days or longer. Why not?
A 2-month old topic "too old"? As an old user, I disregard the "warning" and proceed, but what if others won't? In the "Forum Feedback" we'll have several topics about the same thing?
What is the current "retirement age requirement"?:)
Well, it might be that it would need to be different for, say, a browser discussion board and the Forums feedback one. Or the Lounge for that sake.
Do you think it's variable or it needs to be?:)

@joshl In a forum, topics older than a week can be considered old and you should think twice before replying to it.

And this is the main reason for the warning, to make people think if it's really necessary to revive that discussion and if the reply will add something useful to that thread.

Topics about Opera (current, not Presto) can be "too old" as the issue may have been fixed and then perhaps regressed - those should be a new thread (especially if the title says something about "Opera 36" or whatever). Exceptions for the last XP/Vista version or the last 32-bit Windows version - same as for Presto. Topics about the old forum software (named Vanilla, if you didn't know) might go in the Lounge; they wouldn't belong in "Forum Feedback". Lounge topics ... well, a topic about the 2016 elections would seem pointless now, while "What is your current weather?" should always be fine.

@leocg Also, depending on the subject of discussion, opening a new topic can be better than replying to an old one.
