- The download link is broken.
What happens when you open this link: http://www.opera.com/download/get/?partner=www&product=android&utm_source=(direct)_opera_com&utm_medium=doc&utm_campaign=(direct)_via_opera_com ? It works fine for me.

You may like to check XDA-Developers.com if the absence of the Play Store is not what you want.

Thanks, but I already posted a working link in my original message.
What bothers me is that the link on the official Opera for Android page is broken.
Also, I still would like to have an official statement by Opera concerning whether they maintain the operasoftware store on Aptoide or not. Back in the day, i.e. ten years ago and more, Opera was much more responsive towards user requests. Back then it was also possible to file support requests for pay (which I did in 2006).

Google is blocked in China.
Any software that communicates with Google servers simply doesn't work. This includes the Play Store. Of course there are solutions like VPNs, etc. but I doubt many people install that on their phones. I don't. Another solution is using a foreign SIM with data roaming, which naturally is comparatively expensive.

If your problem is about a trusting VPN as far I know this is fine and HotSpotShield too.

I'm fine without Google Play and Google services, which would just take up additional RAM anyhow. What I'd like to have is an answer to my question by Opera, and someone to fix their web site. Can't be that hard.
(Interestingly Opera is now in Chinese hands.)

But can you explain how is the link broken? What happens when you try to use it, which URL exactly fails? It is likely that you can access the website, but the download link is blocked by the Great Firewall.
Regarding app stores, then as far as I know except of Google Play only Galaxy Store is actively maintained.

Well, then Opera should take action and get the operasoftware store removed from Aptoide. This is very confusing to users, potentially leading to the installation of malware.
It is possible to communicate with Aptoide staff using their support request form. I have done so. They didn’t want to tell me, however, who runs the store: “We're sorry but we can't provide you with that information.”
If they would publish the email addresses that stores are registered on, that would make things a lot more transparent.

@feklee Which link are you referring to?
I took screen shots of the steps leading to the 404 page:
Note that I am accessing the Internet with a Hong Kong SIM card. This routes around the Great Firewall.
