How to disable notifications for topics I never participated in?

I keep on getting tens of "Unread" notifications for topics I never subscribed or participated in. How can I disable this because it's really annoying me. It's the button on top between "Opera forums" logo and "Recent" click icon. Looks like a tray for letters...

That's not a notification per se, it is just a count. On Vivaldi forums I just ignore that button and use the next one (the clock, for recent posts). Though here, where I do use Unread, when I'm done checking the unread posts I click on the Mark as Read button (far right near the top after clicking Unread) then choose All from the dropdown.

@sgunhouse Yeah, well, it's annoying and pointless and it's just pissing off my OCD. I don't need a counter and a list of topics I'm not participating in or being interested about. And yet it's there in bright red...
