Why can't I make default search engine Qwant?

I have been using Qwant for 2 months, and so far, it performs better than Duck Duck Go. Is there some reason, Opera won't accept it as the default browser?
And if I can sneak a 2nd question in, why is Google search provided on every new tab even though I don't have it as my default search engine?

In case you didn't get the sarcasm, Leo is saying you posted in the wrong part of the forum (since your question is about the browser and not the forums themselves).
But to avoid issues with malware changing your search to something you don't want, the default search engine has to be one of the ones that comes with the browser.
It could be a serious security issue.
