Many times in recent months, when I go back to an Opera window I find that the links in Web pages can no longer be clicked. Instead of the "hand"-type mouse pointer, I just get an arrow, and clicking on a link produces no effect at all. Generally this will happen when I return to a window after some time away from it, perhaps after a Windows sleep or hibernation. It affects all tabs in the window, and any new tabs or sites opened in the window. If I open the same sites in a new window, their links are clickable.

I'm not sure exactly when this began to happen, but I think prior to the current version of Opera (46.0.2597.57) that I'm on now, under Windows 7 64-bit. It certainly didn't happen a year ago. I wonder if it could somehow be related to the phenomenon of transparent Opera windows, as reported in https://forums.opera.com/topic/21752/opera-doesn-t-load-pages-correctly-after-resume-from-windows-hibernation, since both problems are relatively recent, and both seem to happen after returning from sleep or hibernation.

Frankly, between these two problems Opera has become much less useful, interrupting my workflow on a daily basis. I hate to say it, but if I knew how to transfer my hundreds of bookmarks to Firefox, I would probably say a very regretful and somewhat bitter goodbye to a once-splendid program after decades of use.

Bump. Really--no one else experiences this? Or is it just that no one else thinks its abnormal or problematic?

OK, giving up. Either nobody else has it, or nobody thinks it matters. Or else everybody just EXPECTS Opera to be nonfunctional in some way these days.

If nobody else is posting about either of your hibernation-related problems in both threads, the most likely explanation is that nobody else is seeing it. The reason for that may either be that they actually aren't having the problem at all or that they don't have Opera on when going into or coming out of hibernation.

I take your point. I can imagine it's possible that hardly anyone has Opera running before hibernating the computer--possible, but it doesn't seem very likely. If it's your main browser, I'd think you run it pretty much all the time. I guess I could try just closing Opera every time I put the PC to sleep, but that doesn't seem like a good use of time either. I imagine OS differences could be part of the problem; I'm still on Windows 7. Sorry for intemperate comments; but I do actually think that the most likely explanation is that others are experiencing this and figure that's just one of the prices to pay for using Opera, and don't bother coming into the forum. It's axiomatic that only a small minority of people who have a problem with software seek out a forum to post about it.

How long would be that time away from the window? I tried at home but wasn't able to reproduce.

Thanks, Leo. I appreciate the effort. The problem is that it's sporadic and unpredictable; I can't reproduce it myself when I want to. It just happens--once a day or once every other day. It's incredibly annoying when it does (especially now that you can't save and reopen sessions anymore), since it basically renders every tab in the window useless, unless all you're doing is reading.
