There are MANY addresses that this happens. It's actually pretty random and weird as heck.

For example: if I type maps.google.com it won't open. If I open on another browser, get the exact position I want and copy-paste the link on opera, it opens.

If I try to type in facebook.com, it won't open but going straight to my profile on www.facebook.com/MyProfileName works.

It is hell trying to use reddit with so many links to different websites. Sometimes not even imgur will open. Lots of broken links and many news and articles just don't open.

I'm not sure what is going on but this is making Opera almost unusable.

        AdBlocker?
Try disabling it. It's a possibility, however small.

I'm having a similar problem (Windows 10, Opera 44.0.2510.849). However, I've noticed that the only time it consistently won't open a new address (it gives me a black page with nothing on it) is when I open the link into a new tab from an email. It's particularly bad with hotmail. If I cut and paste the exact same link, it will open fine in a new tab I create.

Did you try with a clean profile?

I did a full uninstall, did what I was told (http://help.opera.com/Windows/12.10/en/crash.html) to do to create on a new folder as a stand alone installation and now things are finally working out.

I'll update here again in case the problem shows up again.

              Thanks for the help!

Those instructions are for old Opera Presto and not for current versions.

to do to create on a new folder as a stand alone installation and now things are finally working out.

If a new profile solved the issue, it means that something in the old profile was broken.

Commonly speaking: when Opera (or any other browser) shows serious delays in loading a page then it's often a DNS related issue and not so much a browser problem. Thing is: when the website takes too long to respond (timeout is reached) then Opera (and all its competitors) will mention this.

Yet when it seems the browser is seemingly looping into doing nothing then it's most likely DNS.

                    Then what?
What shall be done about it?

                      Use another DNS server.

Leo, how is one to go about it?

I, for one, know how to

                        • use another machine,
                        • use another browser,
                        • use another ISP,
                        • use another cable,
                        • use another power socket... 🙂
                          You get me. 😉
