The first Opera developer 45.0.2522.0 😉

The change log, and the announcement: Project Reborn hits Opera 45 Developer channel.

"Today, we bring you the initial developer release of Opera 45. In this version we have an update for the Reborn project, introducing Whatsapp as the second messenger in the sidebar.

      Project Reborn is progressing

Browsers need to evolve. This is why we made the future vision, that we showed with Opera Neon, and why we’re rapidly making progress with the redesigned interface, code-named Reborn.

Like in Opera Neon, Reborn modernizes the browser with new icons, colors, and a touch of animation.

The first glimpse of the Reborn interface was released two weeks ago, and now, after such a short time, the project is ready for another refresh in the developer stream. Following all the feedback, that we received from you, some small improvements such as: colors, contrasts, readability, and space above tabs, have been added.

      WhatsApp joins the club

We love using Messenger.com in Opera’s new sidebar. Today, we have added support for WhatsApp (web.whatsapp.com). This means you get a very easy way to use these messengers, without needing to switch tabs. Similarly for Messenger.com, you can simply log in to the service, and start chatting. We have also added a shortcut for quick access (⌘ + ⇧ + m on macOS, CTRL + SHIFT + m on Windows).

We also plan to continue adding more messengers.

Thank you for all the feedback

We are humbled about all the feedback we are getting for the Reborn, and Neon projects. Please keep it coming to help us make the browsers for the future a lot better!

      Other highlights:

      – We fixed the problem with opening speed dials and suggestions in a new window.

      – We lowered flash requirements to version 23, so Linux users don’t have to install the latest flash."

Th Chromium has been updated to version 58.0.3013.3.

      ☕ \m/

          There are some popular messengers.

Are you going to add them statically?

I think that it should be installable like sidebar extension .

I can't log in with Messenger.com. The page still always the same. Only with the link to the play store for Android.

Opera Developer 45 seems to work fine - except that having activated the sidebar to use Facebook Messenger (an excellent feature) there seems to be no way to get it to retract. With OD 44 I was able to click on the FBM icon to toggle showing/hiding it, but that does not seem to work on OD 45. It would be great to see that reinstated on the next update (I think the same comment holds for WhatsApp too).

                  Welcome to Opera forums @Phillip21!

There is an arrow left down to hide the sidebar or Ctrl + Shift + M.

Hi @phillip21 @zalex108, regarding the shortcuts for the Side Bar, there are two separate functions available:

                    1. Show sidebar: no shortcut added by default, but you can assign it in opera:settings/configureCommands > Show sidebar,

                    2. Toggle sidebar's recently used messenger: it has default shortcut Ctrl(Command on Mac)+Shift+M, which you can change also in opera:settings/configureCommands.

                          1. I cant cast to chromecast, youtube, twitch, netflix...
                          2. Notifications from whatsapp dont show in osx and w10

                          thanks, the best browser now

One question, do you will integrate twitter on sidebar?

Unfortunately the link preview/hover/popup in the bottomleft corner is gone.

Internet feels a lot unsafer, if you don't know where you go.

                              Missing it a lot.
We lowered flash requirements to version 23, so Linux users don’t have to install the latest flash."
Doesn't that mean that you allow flash versions with known and unpatched vulnerabilities.

Since 45.0.2522.0, the messenger does not collapse anymore on a second click on the button.

I'd like to see Skype, Twitter and/or Discord added to the side bar. I love this update so far, but I use neither WhatsApp or Messenger. It looks really nice from what I've seen of it, and I'm tempted to switch over to only using the Opera version of those apps if they're added.

I'm curious if perhaps there couldn't in the future be a way to add other apps to the side bar using extensions, or perhaps even a built-in feature?

                                          Does not work here 😕

The platform is Ubuntu 14.04, although I guess this should not be related.

To make it close, I have to right click on the sidebar, disable FB messenger (to close the pan) and enable it again (to get the button back)
