  For a non-Chrome web browser like Firefox to display an "urgent pop-up warning" about a Chrome browser update, the mechanism creating that message has to exist in: the system, its scheduler, or a specific malicious website (or an ad it's hosting). If the message is being triggered by your system or its scheduler, it indicates at least a system-account-level penetration by malware. If the message is triggered by a visiting a particular website, then you're dealing with a corrupt website or a malicious ad which the site is hosting.

  You haven't linked the pop-up to a particular website URL in your posts, leading to a suspicion there is malware on your system. Is the pop-up occurring at multiple sites or at just one URL (in which case, which one? -- and please obfuscate any URL spelling of that site as noted earlier)?

  sorry to disagree, i consider iphonesto be apple branded foxconns products.

  built to apple's specs and packaged in pretty boxes designed by apple, true, but built by a chinese company and there is very little apple could do to stop foxconn from going rogue on them. apple's only intellectual property is the iOS, no exclusive or proprietary hardware components. standard bits and pieces chucked together like any other of the many chinese smartphones, just more difficult to repair by apple's design brief.

  the only hardware apple produces these days are a few mac pro desktops. anything else is basically chinese gear badge-engineered to high standards at premium prices.

  not wanting to flame here, just a reality check.

  and yes, i use apple products. since 1989.

  A curiosity: being, currently, a Vivaldi user, does not leave to call my attention the vinculation that certain layers of users continue keeping a fairly deep connection with Opera.

  Sometimes within sentimental character, it is not uncommon that people perceive in them frustrations, sorrows, regrets, even though being they located, in my view, within a continuation of their beloved Opera and in my judgment, a continuation in several aspects very improved because is immersed in a conjuncture that follows advances in technology, seeking, miraculously, keep an incredibly personalized browser. In their forums, there is more of a topic with the focus in Opera. As a curiosity, I beg permission to indicate one of them:

  Searchknow is a rather complex system and browser infector that typically requires multiple sequential steps to remove successfully. Because Searchknow arrives by bundling with another user-downloaded installation-based program, it is actually installed into the victim system using typical full-system privileges. This makes it harder to remove than some typical drive-by infection vacuumed up by a browser. One of Searchknow's system infection elements automatically acts to interfere with various 'normal' attempts at removing Searchknow, so you're probably going to have to kill that off using a special program (eg: Rkill) before you can get anything else permanently accomplished.

  There's an excellent write-up at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/search-know-ads-removal-guide which explains how the infection occurs and all the 25 or so steps that need to be done to be certain to totally remove the infection. It will involve you using a variety of free download tools, all of which are known to be reputable (as is the Bleeping Computer site itself).

  if Opera really wants to be against ads on the net, then it's also against funding of 99% of websites

  I don't really think that 99% of the sites use ads or even rely on them.

  And Opera is not against ads but against the way ads work nowadays.

  Also, is up to the user to enable the ad-blocker or not, being it even possible to be disabled on a site basis. So if you or anyone think that a site deserves to have their ads displayed, you can just disable the ad-blocker for that site.

  Opera is not against the web. On the contrary, Opera is trying to make the web a better place.

  And Opera didn't create the ad-blockers, Opera just incorporated as a native feature something that lots of people have already been using in their daily lives.

  Ad makers and site owners/creators will have to rethink the use of ads as people don't like those intrusive, irrelevant and repetitive that many sites use.

  What kind of things are you interested in creating? You have console applications, desktop applications (Windows, Linux, Mac?), web sites, web services... Usually the first steps are with console applications, in which you have less complexity.
  I'd recommend C#, although Java is very popular as well. Anyway, I can see this thread going off topic very quickly. :S

  Videos not good at all currently, perhaps not because of the browser, I guess.

  Well, today it's not about browsers per se, but about video formats and some strange thing happening lately.

  SOME .mp4 files run normal in any browser, but downloaded, its sound appears not running synchronised at all - up to a second off.
  First I thought the files were corrupted.
  (Well, now I think in a way...)
  Or that the downloader corrupts them.
  But then it appeared it didn't depend on the way of downloading at all.
  That got me thinking, I tried reuploading some - THERE IT WORKED NICE! So the files themselves were deemed to be nice.
  What then? My system? My player?
  Tried a few older mp4s with that player here - NICE. These new ones - bad.
  What's happening? What might be the difference in those files?
  What should I check now? The files' detailed properties?
  (It gives me a slight idea that these newer files with this problem to occur do load rather slow trying to stream online as well, much slower. It seems. This is what made me start trying to download them in the first place now.)
  (Yup, it started VERY recently - not a few weeks ago.
  First I must've encountered that.. Well, let me say it was a movie or two from a site I'm not mentioning:naughty: and videos from Facebook (the latter having been being source of some trouble for a while now).)

  This free utility will allow you to at least see your passwords.
  If it doesn't find the passwords automatically (in my case it displays my Google Chrome ones by default not my Opera ones) select "Advanced Options" under the file menu, check the "use the following profile folder" box and enter the path to the Data folder of your Opera profile.
  You can see where that is under "About Opera" in the Opera main menu.
  It will be something like C:{user path}\Opera\Profile\Data.

  I don't like Windows 10. With the use of StartIsBack my Windows 8.1 looks and works perfectly. And to stop all the Microsoft spying I use Destroy Windows Spying (DWS).
