When I start typing into the search box, Opera will give me suggestions to popular websites. It seems to be mostly for shops. For example, "ama," "for," and "bed" will automatically suggest "amazon.com," "forever21.com," and "bedbathandbeyond.com." These links are not in my history or in my bookmarks.
Is there a way to turn this feature off?
Separately -- I know the issue with Opera suggesting items from your history was also a thing, in which the issue was that this feature couldn't be turned off either. Has there been a fix to this as well or is this still an always on feature?
@leocg That sucks. I guess it is a Google problem then. Thanks for all the replies!
@leocg Mostly through the Help question mark icon. I didn't even know there was a feedback link at the bottom of the page. But checking the link at the bottom also gives me an error on Opera, but still works fine on other browsers. See screen captures.
@leocg I tried logged out of my google account, but I think you need to be logged in to access most of the google pages so you can't even provide feedback while logged out. The only Google page that works logged out is Youtube, and their feedback form works while logged out. But maybe Youtube's feedback website works differently than the standard suite of Google pages.
Interestingly, the Google 403 error comes up when I am signed into Youtube and try to provide feedback, but the feedback page works when I am signed out of Youtube.
@leocg It doesn't seem like a Google problem if it works on other browsers. It looks like an Opera problem as to why it's not loading specifically on Opera.
I found that Google Feedback links are broken for Opera. Every time I try to access a Google Feedback form on any of Google's websites (mail, accounts, calendar, etc) I get a Google 403 error. But on other browsers it works fine.
Hello,
I don't know if this is a bug or working as intended, but every time I delete "hosted app data" through the clear browsing history setting, it also clears my site settings. I only have 2 extensions, Lastpass and the default Opera adblock, neither of which should interfere with site settings. Even when I turn off all my extensions, deleting hosted app data still clears my site settings. Regardless, it seems like deleting extension app data should be disconnected from site settings.
Is this a bug?
Thanks
@leocg I don't think I did. All I did was sign into my account, which I successfully did. Then it asked me for a passphrase, which I never set up. After two sync resets, it then asked me if I wanted to set a passphrase or if I wanted to sync using my login credentials. I chose to use my login credentials so hopefully I'll never have to see the passphrase again.
@zalex108 Thanks for a useful response.
@leocg No, I never set a passphrase. I did not change my password recently. I built a new computer though, so this issue was only happening to the new installation of windows on that computer. It actually fixed itself overnight so it seems that it just takes some time for the reset sync to work? Regardless, it's not an issue for me anymore. Thanks for the help though.
I'm having the same issue. Reset sync data, but it's still asking for a passphrase. According to sgunhouse, it's supposed to ask for my old password but it's not.
Haha, well this is embarrassing, I don't know why I posted here. I actually meant to ask Google how to change the Gmail app download location for attachments. I must have not been thinking and just posted on this forum instead. But if anyone here has any ideas, that would surely help.
Thanks. So the only way to clear typed history is to clear my entire browsing history? I tried clearing cookies and other site data, as well as emptying cache, but the mistyped url kept appearing in the autofill. I had to clear my entire browsing history to remove the url.
Hello,
I'm trying to clear my typed history. I made a typo while writing a url, and now it always appears first in the url autocomplete suggestion. I tried searching the forums for it but I couldn't find a solution.
I'm using Opera 19 on Windows 8.1.
I'm running Windows 8.1. What other information do you need?
Hello, I have a small issue with the Opera url autocomplete function. Usually if I start typing an address (e.g. "youtube"), it will autocomplete specific youtube pages in my history. But if I type the whole address (e.g. "youtube.com"), then it should go to the homepage. But sometimes the autocomplete still fills the url with a random history page even after typing the ".com", and I have to delete the extra junk after the backslash in order to go to the home page. It happens about 50% of the time and I don't know what triggers it.
I would actually prefer if there was a way to remove the autocomplete feature, but I don't think it exists yet. Until then, is there a way to fix my immediate problem?
