@leocg The workspaces themselves retain, but not their contents.

I am aware of the startup settings and I specifically disabled the "retain tabs from previous sessions" because under normal circumstances this merely clutters up my session: when I start a browser I want to start out fresh.

However, being able to retain one dedicated selection of tabs through the use of a workspace would get you the best of both worlds. Yet things don't work this way: either you retain all tabs (which, IMO, once again makes the use of workspaces kinda obsolete: I'd rather open a new window to browser, do my stuff, then close all tabs in there to also close the window).

So, I don't use all too many added features because the browser works pretty good without all those - in my opinion - distractions.

At the time of writing I'm writing a rather extensive Steam guide and during some writing and research I found myself both in need of a break, but also with 6 or 8 tabs open (spread across 2 - 3 islands). Love the island feature btw, it makes it easier to keep an overview.

Took a quick break, decided to pause my efforts and wanted to check a newssite but... that got cluttered so I tried workspaces.

With all due respect, but it seems rather pointless to me. I was hoping that these workspaces could retain, even if you closed Opera, but that's obviously not the case.

Which means that it's much easier to simply press Ctrl + N to open a new window and do my temporary browsing there after which I close said window and go back to my guide endeavours.

As such my question / suggestion (?) => why can't we keep and/or save whole workspaces? So that you can pick up on them at a later time?

I mean... it's called a work -space, and work is more than often not something that you do in one single session.

So I'm trying to access Bing which is my default search engine because I have trust issues with Google, and all of a sudden I'm blocked. As it turns out your filter has now marked bing.com to be untrustworthy which I think is hilariously bad:

I tried to get more info about this and it seems you're using APWG to warn you about malicious websites, and they're blocking bing.com? Alas, I also used their contact page to inform them about it and figured I'd do the same here.

Pardon me for saying so but I have a hard time believing that Bing.com got hacked.

All this does is direct me to sites which are more eager to redirect me to ad pages than any actually working download links. Very bad.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I think it's more likely that I slipped through the gaps a bit because I've been participating on this forum long before we had these voting mechanics and I haven't been very active once Opera moved to this version.

As far as site settings - it's exactly the same as Chrome. Click on the lock or globe icon in the address bar then select Site settings in the pop-up. You should have guessed that one.

Well, I don't use Chrome and once again it's not as obvious as you say. See: most sites use HTTPS these days which means that the globe is usually a lock. As such my assumption was to find more information regarding the certificate when I clicked on the lock, not extra stuff such as site information. It seems a bit illogical to me.

We all approach these things differently of course, but more than often features are picked up differently by newcomers than veterans.

Hi gang!

I'm trying to remove the cookies set by one single website but I am completely lost. To be perfectly honest I'm almost reconsidering my commitment to Opera (been using it for a few years now) because I can't help get the feeling that us users are slowly but steadily losing control.

Sure, I can delete the browsing data. Even set to a specific time range. But I can't for the life of me find an option to simply show me which cookies were set by a specific website.

Am I overlooking the obvious, and if so what?

Recently I started noticing a problem which has grown considerably and is almost preventing me from using Opera alltogether. I often write articles on web pages, big articles, on a variety of fora and since a while I began to notice that whenever I scrolled back and forth in the article (to proof read and make corrections) the whole webpage starts to move up and down instead of only the text in the textbox. Worse yet: this would often result in making the section I'm working on completely invisible.

I shall give an example... here is a tutorial which I was writing yesterday. In this screenshot I clicked behind "foe" and placed the cursor there, nothing special at first:

But the very moment I start typing the whole page starts to move and I'm suddenly left with this:

The textbox is now somewhere at the top of my screen, I'm looking at the bottom of the screen and worse yet: can't see my work anymore.

Now, the Minecraft server you're seeing here is using an older version of Xenforo so at first I blamed it on that. But these days I'm getting the exact same behavior on other fora as well, for example the FreeBSD forum which uses a more modern version.

I tried using safe mode in order to rule out plugins, but that didn't have much of an effect. In all honesty I also can't imagine how a plugin could affect the way the browser behaves while editing a textbox.

Does anyone have an idea?

I think you're having other issues, things not related to Opera. Opera can use a proxy by default, but only the one already set up on your system. So it won't act like a proxy of its own.

So if there are websites complaining about this then you might want to check the health of your system. Is it possible you caught a virus or some malware?

Whoops, apologies. My bad, I totally overlooked the section I was in. Guess I'm still getting used to the new forum layout a bit.

A very easy way to accomplish this (sort off) is to open a private window (control-shift-n by default). Then enable the VPN in your private window and leave things as they are in your regular window.

Just use Control-U, or right click on the page and select the option "Page source" from there.

Are you sure it's vanilla Opera and not some plugin or other extension causing this? Because I can't reproduce this, I'm also using 47.0.2631.80.

I conclude as much based on both the opera://dns page but also what my routers are telling me. I don't spot any evidence that Opera makes any attempts at downloading previous downloads. It merely tells me "file not found" in the download section, but that's it.

To my knowledge not too much has changed here. Right now my active tab has a light color while my other (background) tabs all have a darker color. Could that be the cause of some confusion?

That video doesn't help me much, also because I can't read the language it's in. What does the red error message actually say?

To me it almost looks as if the download got canceled and if that's the case it's either because of a pressed keyboard combination, not enough free diskspace or maybe a router which blocks certain traffic. But I sincerely doubt that the problem is only related to Opera.

Speaking of which: what happens when you try to download the same file with another browser?

good day i've noticed that opera does not fully shutdown when i click the x. i know cause when i relaunch opera i'm and go to certain sites i'm still logged in and i'm still logged into lastpass. i've checked taskmanager and i'm not finding anything related to opera still running after i close it. any ideas and or suggestions?

That's not because Opera is still running but because some websites leave cookies behind which allow you to automatically log on the moment you revisit them. Same probably applies to lastpass (though I don't have hands on experience with that myself).

A good way to check this for yourself is to open a private window (control-shift-n) and then re-visit those website(s) again. You'll see that you're no longer logged on.

Actually some things have changed. Previously the only way to change the search bar in the speed dial was through using the so called power settings. You know: pressing up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, b, a in your settings screen. After that sequence a dialog appeared and then several more options would become available. This no longer works.

But yeah, the advanced settings cover this and they work fine. However I can definitely understand the confusion because the 'advanced settings' tab. is in the settings screen. So I think it's only logical that not everyone would also relate that to settings in the start page.

I can definitely relate to Leo's comment above, this leads up to the question for the OP: what do you consider the profile folder to be?

Be sure to point your your file browser to: %appdata%. There you'll come across a folder called "Opera Software" which you could consider to be your profile folder. Rename that, or rename the sub-folder called "Opera Stable". Once you did that and started Opera you'll notice a second folder being created.

Are there any browser options or flags I can set to modify the spacing behaviour?

I know Leo said no but there actually is an option, but it's not enabled by default. However, I also don't think it's an option you're looking for. The option is: "Disable tab bar's top spacing when browser window is maximized", is it possible that this option got turned on somehow?

By default there's a very small strip left on top of the tabs (when maximized).

So to reach this setting: go to the Opera settings (Alt-P), enable the "Show advanced settings" option at the bottom of the menu. Then click the browser section and find the 'User Interface' section below. There the option I mentioned should appear.
