It was a rogue cookie setting, thing is Opera 24 and below all loaded the page fine as it was, something in 25 changed.. Anyway I just deleted the cookies for this site and all is well.

I can't remove URL history results by pressing delete or Shift-delete etc either.

You can delete them from history.

I have a website I visit daily and it's still the sixth result on the drop down box

Hmm, which version of Opera are you using? Newest versions don't have that dropdown list with visited addresses.
