It's become extremely unreliable relative to the way that it's always been. I see "ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED" before most sites load, if they load at all.

I'm not sure if it's because there's a geographical issue, but in the past that's only meant speed differences, not reliability (with rare exceptions, such as the few times the VPN has been down). "Americas" is what I always use, but I think it's very much limited to Europe in reality, unfortunately.

Note that I'm using 85.0.4323.0, which is new this week, so the possibility exists that it's the problem.

Will the warning about Flash no longer being supported after this year actually go away before next year? It's incredibly annoying. No, clicking "Turn off" (whatever that means: refers to the message or Flash?) does NOT help, because it re-appears the next time you start Opera.

Starting with the last build, when I run Opera dev (Win10), I no longer get its real taskbar icon, just the generic blank white one. This is strange, since Opera.exe has the icon, as does the shortcut. Anyone else seeing this?

I also notice that right-clicking that icon shows only "Close window" instead of all the usual things that you get.

Note: I don't pin to the taskbar. Just talking about when Opera appears there due to being run.

@burnout426 Just for clarity, when a build upgrades, and it runs, it by definition has successfully upgraded, right? Especially if you've upgraded to multiple builds, successfully each time, eliminating the possibility of a fluke with one build in particular.

So, how would an uninstall/reinstall (while keeping the profile) be substantively different than an upgrade? Doesn't this problem feel much more like something amiss in the profile, a vestige of the earlier problem left behind for some?

@leocg No, it's not worth nuking everything just for this. Clearly, though, there's some aspect of the bug that did exist before that can carry over to the present.

Every time I run 65.0.3425.0, it puts its icon on the desktop (Win10). Fixed?

It seems to be corrected as of 56.0.3010.0, at least, since I installed a new Insider build yesterday and the problem hasn't triggered.

I didn't see anything in the release notes that seemed like it, though Speed Dial was mentioned a few times, so I guess it was one of those.

Yes, I'm pretty sure LastPass does handle it, but I haven't tried it.

Path1 and Path2 do not land on the same login form. It's effectively a different "site" (on the same domain) in that you see a different login page (different name, different graphics, etc). They are two distinct "sites" under the same domain.

If you inadvertently enter the credentials for the "other" form, you are logged in to the "other" site, which is very tricky if you're not paying attention. This is why you always have to know where you are (which isn't difficult), remember which credentials are appropriate (which is), and then select the right credentials if it happens they're not the ones already showing.

It's definitely possible to bookmark each one, and I have, but that doesn't help much with remembering the right credentials set.

How is Opera supposed to handle this?

What I'm finding is that Opera doesn't suggest the appropriate credentials based on the full URL. Rather, it ignores everything past the domain name and just defaults to whichever credentials you used last on that domain. So you have to remember which credentials are appropriate, and if necessary, choose the right one in the pull-down.

Couldn't it look a little further in the URL to know which credentials to suggest by default?

@customcruiser I'm told they're working on a fix now that the association between two seemingly separate things has been identified. Stay tuned.

@mgeffro That's interesting. Windows builds are updated roughly weekly here (reboots are a natural byproduct of that process), and this problem occurs on a similar interval, though I don't have any concrete knowledge of whether one has followed the other, since this idea never occurred to me.

Yesterday, however, is fresh in mind. I did upgrade a Windows build, and Opera also triggered the problem. Hmmm. Is it even possible that Opera could be looking at the specific build number of Windows 10 in making the determination of whether it should un-blacklist something?

I'll definitely be watching more closely now and let you know if one follows the other again.

But the extension issue was a definite issue (not just for me) that was fixed, was it not (I still haven't seen it in months)? Also, I've seen several people mention the SpeedDial problem, so it shouldn't be unique to me but could still be a problem (if it's not a feature, which it sounds like you're confirming it's not).

Note that when I remove the Speed Dials in question (had to do it just today, which is in line with it tending to happen a few days after a new build), they stay gone for a matter of days. It's not as if I remove them, close Opera, run Opera, and see them again, which would certainly suggest the writing problem you mention. I can also add SD's consistently. So I don't think it's that. Maybe it's the signature issue though.

It's different from yours. What does being on a blacklist mean? Maybe you'll see something in it. I see that it contains all six of recurring items (Overstock used to be the seventh, but it must have been dropped).

More oddities involving using the "Americas" proxy, these two resulting from GDPR but serve as handy examples for this ongoing weirdness. I, too, am baffled by the "Because the majority of people accessing X using the Opera VPN are from Y" explanation--I've never seen that behavior when using a proxy or VPN.

As for forced Speed Dials, that's still a regular feature, and I expect it's just part of Opera's advertising deals. I guess someone will have to devise some clever way around it, or at least to automate their periodic removal.

@leocg In an earlier thread, which I am unable to find, a mod said basically what I had said earlier, that everything was still in transition and the locations are being added slowly, so for now much of it would be European-based.

All the sites can't be inaccurate, however. Do you know which one is accurate? I do know that almost all of them know exactly where I am when the VPN is off....

What is happening with the VPN and being able to rely upon the locations for actually being the location? The last I read, and I think this was several months ago, the servers were still being built out, but it's been a while now.

For instance, "Americas" is still really "Europe," 100% of the time that I've seen.
