Having a lot of slowdown and graphical issues after updating to Big Sur 11.0.1 on my Macbook Pro 13 (intel i5 2017).

Mainly occurs when I go fullscreen and scroll down a page. It will stutter heavily or when I go back to a tab after not using it for a minute or so, it will be a blank page. Refreshing it is the only way for the site to appear.

I can provide the GPU error report from Opera://GPU if an Opera team member is interested.

Updated Opera today to 72.0.3815.378, which didn't help. Tried Opera Beta and still have the same issue.

Fullscreen video on MacOS 10.15.7 is has been broken since the Opera 71 update. It occurs in the stable, beta and developer releases.

The toolbar shows up, even when Opera is maximized, in fullscreen videos on any website (ex: youtube). I have reported this bug multiple times on the forum & bug submitting tool, with no response.

The scrollbar keeps becoming visible and doesn't hide itself in fullscreen youtube videos and on other websites. Also cannot access my flow with the sidebar disabled, which was previously possible. On MacOS Catalina 10.15.3

I am having this problem too on MacOS 10.15.7 for the past month. Only youtube is using a large portion of CPU and making my laptops fans spin up like crazy. Never used much CPU before

I have the same performance issues, mainly with a 5-10 second lag after clicking a link on google search. I thought this was because of my ad blocker, but even disabled I have the same problem. The only way I can solve this is opening the link in a new tab (by middle clicking on my mouse)

The main reason I believe this is occurring is because hardware accelerated video decode is not working correctly. Turning hardware acceleration off and then on again seems to fix this for me. I can tell if it's working by how long youtube videos take to load or how high my fans spin (on a simple 1080p youtube video...)

Another step I used was looking at Opera://GPU and seeing the Hardware Video Decode status.

For me it said:

Hardware Protected Video Decode: Unavailable
Metal: Disabled (I am on Mac)

I changed the Flag: Override software rendering list and now it says my hardware protected video decode is enabled.

This is occurring on other chromium based browsers as well (Chrome & Brave)

Search results take a while to load, then links just don't respond until I open them in a new tab, then after about 10-15 seconds it comes up. Mostly occurs on Google Search links

Still getting a lot of graphical glitches and rendering issues on MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1.

When I switch tabs, I often get blank pages and have to refresh the page in order to see anything. This seems to be happening more often in fullscreen mode, as scrolling will induce a graphical glitch and the page goes blank for a few seconds before restoring

@operaoperandi it's an Opera issue. this doesn't happen on chrome or brave browser with the exact same extensions loaded. google search links don't respond correctly and links take a very long time to load

fantastic, great work all. though please, something like this should have been done a long time ago. dev kits had been out since june 2020 and brave/firefox/edge all released M1 versions in november and december. hopefully everything works well and bugs are minimal

@leocg Opera feels significantly slower than brave, edge and chrome on the M1 macs. everything takes longer to load and it's just not a good experience. in speedometer 2.0 (web browsing test) it gets less than half the score (200 vs 100).

i've switched to brave (for the time being) and absolutely love it. I recommend anyone with an m1 mac to switch to it until Opera releases a native M1 version. it's too big of a real world difference to ignore.

@cduguet i actually switched to brave! it is absolutely excellent once you get everything configured. much much faster than Opera, and on par with safari with a better feature set. Plus it actually gets updated more than every 2 months...

Only thing I missed from Opera was the contextual search bar that would bring up search and copy, but I actually found an extension called "Selection Popup:" that does pretty much the same thing.

Maybe i'll look at opera again if they release a native ARM version, but Brave for android is much better than Opera as well, so syncing with my phone is so much smoother

@leocg: thank you for replying. i did also see some references to ARM in the patch notes for some releases. for now brave is running a whole lot better on the m1, but i'm looking forward to moving back to opera when there is a native ARM version

it really doesn't run well on the M1 compared to chrome or brave. choppy, dropped frames, slow website loading. (literally half the speed, 100 using speedometer 2.0 vs 200 on brave/chrome)

will there be a native ARM version for Mac any time soon? it's very glitchy and unstable in the rosetta 2 emulated form, only getting about 90 on speedometer 2.0, while brave's native ARM64 app runs super smooth and gets 200+ on speedometer 2.0

Chrome, Brave and Firefox already have native M1 apps which score significantly higher in web browsing benchmarks.

From some testing "The M1 Chrome scored 210 in the Speedometer 2.0 test, while the Standard Chrome scored just 116." Talking numbers, the M1 version Chrome performed nearly 66-85 percent better than the Rosetta 2 version.

I was holding off on getting an M1 macbook air since software compatibility was an issue, but now almost everything I need has been updated except for Opera.

will there be a native ARM version of Opera for M1 macs ?

does this occur with smile.amazon.com ? i don't have any issues using it currently
