So on all OSes, there is a config file named: "hosts". On Unix style OSes (like Linux), it's path is:
/etc/hosts

On Windows OSes, the path is:
c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

You have to be the root user to edit it. Open the file in your favorite text editor, and append this line:
0.0.0.0 ysrcunow.com

Basically, your browsers and such need to resolve the spelled-out-website-name into an IP numerical address, and then it reaches out to the website using that value. The first thing it does is look in the "hosts" file for the numerical address - if found, it uses it ... otherwise, it reaches out to the your DNS server (like a phonebook of the Internet) for the translation.

Basically, the address "0.0.0.0" is a dead address, ie, it resolves to "nothing", so your browser will NOT be directed to the actual website.

That's it. Good luck to all. I will post this here, and to another thread regarding this concern. The user leocg will probably comment, but doesn't matter. I've also seen this person posting out to a Reddit thread (with a slightly different username, but similar pattern: gomesleo).

(Sidenote: FWIW, I'm a software engineer with 35+ years experience (now retired ... I'm also a published author of four computer books), and spent quite a while with the security team. This is very questionable. After I'm done posting, I will be gone from this forum, and will uninstall Opera from all four of my machines, and will pass on the info to many others).

Believe me, I am in agreement with you - the app should not take away the native taskbar and border - or at least offer an option to toggle it on and off.

And you know what - Chrome offers this option - see the screenshot below ... this is Chrome running on my Linux machine. I have right-clicked on Chrome's titlebar and you will see the option to toggle the System titlebar and borders.

So yea, this is available in base Chromium, but obviously the Opera Dev team has decided to remove that option.

I run Opera on a Linux OS: openSuse Tumbleweed, using the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

Fortunately, KDE is highly configurable, and this issue is easily solved (I posted the solution out here), but no doubt it will not work on a Mac. (bummer).

BTW, you don't "restore it" ... your DE has to offer it.

I run a Linux OS, openSuse Tumbleweed, and have Opera installed:
(Opera One 104.0.4944.33, Stable,
Freedesktop.org SDK 22.08 (Flatpak), Chromium version:118.0.5993.96).

I did a global search for the filename in my home sub-dir.

:~> find . -name default_partner_content* -ls

It found three occurrences of the file, in various Opera sub-directories. Only one of those three files had the entry
(71 occurrences!):

"bing_attributed_ysrcunow",

And the URL:

"search_url": "https://ysrcunow.com/results.aspx?gd=RD1003896&searchsource=58&q={searchTerms}",

A quick Google search revealed about 4-5 websites, showing a low rating of that URL, plus the Reddit thread.

No one suggested "stupid". I don't shop Amazon either, but I have seen similar when I initially installed Opera. I had to turn off a number of settings (one by one) until it disappeared.

Sometimes the "naming" of the setting is illogical, ie, I'll turn a setting OFF, and something disappears, and I say to myself, "what the heck, that doesn't make sense". Also, there's a setting or two where they phrase the setting description as a -reverse negative-, which can confuse.

Hmmmm. I don't see all that splashy-glam that you mention. Maybe it's because I run it on openSuse Tumbleweed.
I notice most of the "splashy" complaints come from folks running the WIn OS.

Granted, Opera is not all I use .... I also use Chrome, FF, Brave - each has their own special purpose.

Yea, I agree ... you obviously have a promo-type setting enabled, but maybe you're unsure where to look. Start with the Start Page section in Settings. I never see fluff like that.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your intent. (haven't had coffee yet).

Have you considered Workspaces?

It's my opinion, in general, Wayland is not yet ready for prime-time. I try it now and then, but it's mot worth the struggle to fix the various issues arising. (way easier to use X11 with zero issues).

openSuse Tumbleweed, using KDE Plasma (with X11), Opera 104.0.4944.23, Stable, Flatpak, Chromium 118.0.5993.89. (and use FF, Chrome, Brave).

(disclaimer: software engineer of over 35 years, c/ c++/ java /web dev, published author of four books, now retired). And yea, I know, folks will dispute my opinion

Yea, I access it by a mouse tap on the Opera icon in upper left of its window, and then select Settings.

Alternately, use Alt-P keystroke.

Open up the properties for the Opera short-cut launcher. In the executable entry field, append a space and type:

 --private

In our Linux environment, it's easy to install a "pre-opera one" version.

It's my understanding this is mostly a user to user forum, but there are active admins out here. I doubt seriously Devs are watching (retired Dev here, and I wouldn't be out here )

For me, the VPN icon in the URL bar (address line) is in plain sight, and I can see it switch on and off.

Not gonna happen ... too much of an investment at this stage to revert back, just because a few folks want the previous generation Opera. Just download pre-One version (and good luck with future security fixes and enhancements )

I've had, pretty much, no issues with Opera One. Maybe it's my runtime environment, or my specific usage of Opera (I run four different browsers, each with a specific use case).

Create a shortcut on your desktop or home sub-dir (?).

I only use Flatpaks (when I have to) and never Snaps. Many browsers (and other apps of course) have entries in the
~/. config/[...]
sub-dir for mods. Some depends are based on your environment (such as DE, etc), which you didn't specify).

I see the same response from the website as @blackbird71 ... and I agree with their opinion.

I'd say this isn't a browser issue, the way it stands now. It's possibly an oddball config (corrupted browser files) on your machine.

Something I do for troubleshooting is to create a new user account on my computer, then fire up the browser, and access the website in question.
