After the new update, Opera started working for me again with the extensions. Before that, every time i load it, it would crash and eventually after a few attempts it would load but with no extensions.

RE: Opera for Mac is crashing topicOpera for Mac
I just updated Opera to v85.0.4341.39 , I believe it was .28 previously. And it just kept crashing. I did a reinstall and still same issue. In the end it started up with no extensions. But the minute i start adding extensions it crashes again. Even if its different extensions that i enable each time....But yet a couple of extensions made it through without crashing. Weird.

RE: Opera extremely slow since v 78Opera for Windows
@zenixco I do have some extensions but i have tried turning them all off. I have tried a clean install by removing everything and installing etc. All had the same problems once i started to have a lot of tabs. Only thing that fixed it was going back to v77. I am now trying the latest v84, still slower than v77 but definitely better than what i used to get on v78,79,80 etc.
I am going to stick with it and see if i can handle it because i do want the newer versions for security reasons.

RE: Opera extremely slow since v 78Opera for Windows
@lindencoll Yeah I find anything past v77 a lot slower. i dont know what changed in v78 and above but there was some engine change with chromium i presume.

@burnout426 said in Opera extremely slow since v 78:
You can try some things mentioned here. But, I don't know if they'll help in cases where Opera slows downs because of lots of tabs open. You can try though and change things back if they don't help.
Thanks, I will try them out.

Opera extremely slow since v 78Opera for Windows
Hi Guys,
I dont know what to do, Is my only recourse to switch to Vivaldi or another browser. I have been stuck on v77 because ever since some changes in v78 and above, every time i update to a newer version, Opera gets very slow and laggy due to the amount of tabs i have (around 250 tabs over 6 windows), My cpu is a i7 and i have 32Gb Ram as well as a SSD drive. Its not my computer resources, I have tried vivaldi with a lot of tabs and thats seems ok even though i think they use chromium as well. And opera v77 works fine, but every time i upgrade, it becomes really slow and laggy. I keep thinking the memory usage / CPU usage will get fixed over the updates but its now up to v84 and still ongoing. I am thinking its something that is inherent in Opera and hence is expected to be just part of the browser now? I have seen other people report this on here and it doesnt seem like they have found a fix besides staying on the older version as well...
Anyone have any ideas? Ideally i still want to stick with Opera. But I am getting worried staying on a older version for this long as i presume there are security and other fixes that occurs.
Are there any features / flags / things i can switch off to make it run better. When i mean laggy or slow its because once i start using the browser (when its left alone , the resource usage seems to drop down to something acceptable) and going through tabs, the memory and cpu usage really spikes alot. I already use a TaB suspender so basically 99% of all my tabs are suspended at any given time with only a couple of active tabs.

RE: Sluggish and crashingOpera for Windows
@leocg My problem still exists with all extensions disabled , a settings reset and a clean profile. Thats why i thought it has to be an issue with the version as i noticed others mentioned the same issue when they went above v77.

RE: Sluggish and crashingOpera for Windows
I have Opera on 2 different computers with completely different hardware parts in 2 different homes and i still have the same issues, Very sluggish and slow especially with a lot of tabs opened. I dont have this same issue if i still to the older v77...only any version after that. I am not the only one to report this. I think there was some large changes to the browser / engine after v78 and v80 etc, Its so much slower especially a decent amount of tabs.
I have since gone back to v77, but i encountered an issue, you cant go backwards with your profile intact, so for some reason it just doesnt keep track of passwords on my v77 after i went back from v82. Even when i disable and enable password manager etc, it just doesnt work at all. But its so much faster than all the versions after v77.

RE: Keep freezing in Windows 11Opera for Windows
@bhwong Have you tried Opera v77? All the versions after that for me and some other users have caused all sorts of memory usage issues and cpu usage issues.

RE: Win 7. Opera updated to 78.0.4093.112. Memory being chewed upOpera for Windows
I tried v81, worked ok for a while and then the same issues. Extremely slow and laggy and unworkable with a lot of tabs even if most are being snoozed. I guess I have to go back to v77 or stick it out to see if any newer versions fixes this issue.

@ultraj Have you tried the newer versions? I am interested in finding out if v81 has fixed the issues or if it still has the same problems we came across v78 and 79. I am still on 77 at the moment for fear of the problems we had.

@ultraj Thanks mate, your suggestiong worked.

@ultraj When i did this, it seemed to fix the memory issues i was coming across.

RE: Out of memory while streamingOpera for Windows
@entropicsoul I am in the same boat and also did what ultraj said and went back down to the 77 branch which removed a lot of the memory usage issues i was coming up again. I was hoping the 80 branch would fix it but looks like its still exists.

@ultraj I might have to try that as well looks like :(.

RE: Win 7. Opera updated to 78.0.4093.112. Memory being chewed upOpera for Windows
@ultraj Yup, Thats the problem i am having except i am not using Private Tabs. The minute i start browsing my tabs, CPU and memory usage skyrockets. If I leave it alone for a while, it all comes back down to not an ideal but still ok amount. I keep updating hoping it will be fixed but still nothing. Same issues, i never had this issue with the older versions, its only been the updates for the past month or 2.

RE: Just updated Opera, Massive memory leaks and CPU usage.Opera for Windows
No I was wrong, Once i start opening up and working with multiple tabs, the CPU usage spikes back up again.

RE: Just updated Opera, Massive memory leaks and CPU usage.Opera for Windows
@mardiyah Sorry, I meant i run the check for updates every few days. It doesnt always find a available update, I am just on the normal chain / release of updates (standard versions not beta). I think this issue may be fixed after yesterday's update. My CPU and memory usage has dropped back down to around where it used to be previously.

RE: Just updated Opera, Massive memory leaks and CPU usage.Opera for Windows
I closed all the windows and restarted or do you mean manually closing every tab?
I didnt disable the extensions or try a clean profile.
The reason why i asked if i could go back to a previous build was because it wasnt like this today till i updated it. Straight after i updated it and it restarted is when this issue came about. I update every few days so i was on the version just before the current one that must have been released in the last couple of days.

RE: Just updated Opera, Massive memory leaks and CPU usage.Opera for Windows
@leocg
I have tried closing down and restarting 3 times and still the same issue. Should I go back to the previous version of opera? Is that possible?
